I have been going to Tavern 23 usually once a week for well over a year. After tonight, my group of 4 will be looking elsewhere to have our weekly night out. The service was AWESOME,as ALWAYS. The food was as tasty as ever, however, because of the ATMOSPHERE, specifically the INSUDE temperature being 59 degrees, the food was totally cold after 2 bites...not to mention myself!!! It was totally uncomfortable atmosphere, with most patrons also commenting & complaining about the restaurant 's temperature. At one point, there was only 1 patron at the bar & food was left uneaten at other tables. And, this was during early dinner hour(4-6 pm). The staff said they were not able to adjust the heat. The owner had set it so Noone could adjust it.BTW the owner was NOT at the restaurant during this time. I know it will be a LONG time,if ever, before we bring our group to T23 again. The owner has demonstrated total inconsideration to both its patrons and staff. So sad!
2/4/25 Have had a wonderful 2 weeks at T23.Our crew has been there 3 times . With the inside at comfortable temperatures, the atmosphere was great as was the food, because it stayed hot while eating. Our party of 4 had navhos with chili for an appetizer. They were a tad overdone, but had delicious flavor. We each had chicken caesar salad, with one person having it as a wrap with asparagus. One of the chicken breasts was too rubbery to eat,so she replaced it with grilled shrimp, which were delicious. The asparagus was overcooked. All i all, an ok dinner for all. Thank you for taking care of the heat issue during these frigid days. Even dropped in for lunch last week, because the food is THAT good along with the waitstaff! Love you Bree,Rosa Bella,Cassie & Adam! You ALWAYS make our group feel loved! Can't wait to see you again! Thank you for our group's dinner " on the house"! We truly do enjoy going to T23 on a...
Read moreI was looking forward to a lunch out, and went to this establishment. After ordering a draft beer, I realized something was off with it. I went to the bar and asked for a replacement and was told that it was my problem as there weren't any complaints thus far. She was basically telling me that it's too bad and wouldn't give me credit. When our waitress returned, I explained again. She took it away without comment but charged me for it just the same . Needless to say that I will never go back, will also tell my friends and acquaintances not to go either. Sad to say that in this industry service is the key ingredient and poor service results in poor sales. That's their problem. I'm sure the barmaid has given others beer for free, I wasn't looking for anything free, just wanted a beer I could enjoy. Since I was charged for it anyway , the waitress got no tip. Oh well, tips mean to ensure proper service. Had she brought me something else, she would have received her 20%. Policies like this do not help your business, but I will never go back. I would fire the bartender as she was rude and blunt . Probably should have left right away but my friend wanted us to go there and I'm always up for something new. I wasn't born yesterday, and have had many beers at many establishments, but usually when there is a problem, you take care of it, you don't fight about it .BTW, the fish and chips was nothing to write home about. Having recently returned from Ireland where this is a staple, we were served fish that was coated with doughy undercooked coating that was more like...

Our family if 9 stopped at Tavern 23 for dinner in October 2024, after spending a day on Walkway Over The Hudson and in Berean park. We chose Tavern 23 based on good reviews and appealing food and beer selection. We made the right choice! All the food ordered was flavorful, fresh, and overall excellent. Steaks and burgers were done to the heat level ordered. We got some interesting beers on tap like New England Hazy IPA, Toasted Pumpkin cider, Key Lime Pie cider.
We were seated outside to accommodate 9 people. Sheila, our waitress, was super nice and friendly and helped making overall visit highly enjoyable. It was a great finish after the foliage hiking day. Thanks Sheila and Tavern 23!
We highly recommend Tavern 23 if you are looking for good quality American cuisine in Poughkeepsie!
Appetizers Street Tacos - steak pieces were tender and the sauce on top was a perfect match! Honey BBQ Wings - excellent. Were gone in no time. Beech Brie - delicious! In addition to warm brie and crostini there was a soft, melting in the mouth roasted garlic. We loved it.
Entrees 14oz grilled NY strip - flavorful, juicy, cooked perfectly! Fish -N- Chips - fresh and flakey! Grilled Salmon - salmon was rightly cooked, not dry. Tavern Burger - juicy and sizzling! Braised short rib with Mushrooms - the meat was tender and soft, the mushroom sauce was good though a bit over salted. Grilled Swordfish over Olive Tomato Risotto & Spinach - excellent. Caesar Salad - as...
