I have been to Sylvia's many times and I must say, without a doubt, that Sylvia's Jamaican restaurant is the best place to get jamaican food in the (845) area.
Authenticity 5-star Quality 5-star Taste 5-star Service 5-Star Staff 5-star
I have nothing terrible to say about this wonderful establishment. The staff is sincere and respectful. The quality and taste of food is better than any competing West Indian/Jamaican restaurants in the near-by vicinity. As a Jamaican myself, I really appreciate how they focus on the Authenticity of the taste of the food and not try to cater too much to an American audience by changing the recipe. They're formula has proven that authentic Jamaican can be succesful. Read moreBeen going here for over a decade, Food is usually great and have no problem but I had such a bad customer service experience I had to leave a review. Called around 5:30pm asking if they still have stew chicken available. I was told no by a young lady on the phone but she then mentions that they are cooking some right at this moment. I proceeded to ask her how long do you think until its ready and she immediately tells me, "I don't know, i'm not a chef" with a terrible attitude. I couldn't believe she even said that, and then she tries back tracking after realizing that was somewhat rude & tells me she'll find out the ETA right now. Told her don't bother, lost a customer that day that would've waited up 30mins. Kinda lives up to the stereotypical Jamaican restaurant, great tasing food, terrible...

The other night as I was eating it I felt (this is definitely corny) a wave of love wash over me. I thought "this must be what it would feel like if my mother cooked me my favorite dish".
Sylvia definitely loves cooking and it comes through in the food - it's like getting a hug.
On top of that, every person who I've met working there is warm and welcoming. The ladies behind the counter encourage me to try other dishes but I can't get enough of the chicken. I look forward to it every week. The portions are healthy, the rice and peas are delicious and the plantains are always magically perfect. Thank you...
