As a hurried bride, I picked The Brown Derby from Yelp reviews as one of our choices for our rehearsal dinner (6/5/15) based on their location and capability to host a crowd of about 40 people. However, when I met John to discuss plans, I was pleasantly surprised that I would not need to interview any other facility - he won me over on the spot. His professionalism and friendliness, not to mention his skills as a restaurateur, were evident right away. He and the staff of the Derby made everything so EASY for me - I didn’t have to worry about anything - just showed up and had a great time. He was very thorough about going through our options for meal style (we chose family style) and the bar, which made it easy for us to choose food options and drink plan that worked for us. We were able to satisfy guests who were meat eaters and vegetarians, teetotalers and drinkers.
The comment I heard most often was, “There was so much food! And it was so good!” I enjoyed everything I ate, and there was so much food that I didn’t even get to try everything, being stuffed. The servers were so attentive and really fast and polite. The location is also really great - right by the train station and the river. I couldn’t be more happy with The Brown Derby, John and the staff. If you need to throw a party - this should definitely be a top...
Read moreI have been going to The Derby for Kareoke night after searching for a place near me in Google. I went and I was surprised as soon as I walked inside. The outside looks small, but the set-up inside is extremely comfortable. They have different sections and in each section is comfortable and on kareoke night you can sing in any section because the words to the songs are displayed everywhere. The bartenders are awesome!! No watered down drinks and reasonably priced. The food is delicious too. The bathroom are separate from the men's room which are also very clean and spacious. The sound quality when singing is high quality. The DJ Mike is just awesome and a pro rotating the lengthy song list from singers. There are all genres played and EVERYONE shows respect and I've seen people join in making it a group song! EVERYONE gets the chance to sing..Mike will make sure you do. I suggest you come early to sign up because it gets crowded quickly. Joe is the owner and I've seen him shaking to the music too 🤣🤣.. Kareoke at The Derby is more like singing with family! I kid you not, you WILL have a goooood time!! Come out and sing drink and meet nice people. Thank me later😊 Happy Singing 🎤🎤...
Read moreStill unsure of my experience last night. I want to give this place a higher rating as I've ALWAYS had a good time here in the past, but last night's experience left such a bad taste in my mouth. I stopped by around midnight and they initially turned my group away because it was "too full", which it's a Saturday night and Kentucky Derby night, so I would've understood. However, after a little convincing, the bouncer finally allowed us in and man, that place was not full in the least. If we're able to snag seats at the bar within 2 seconds of walking in, the place isn't "too full." I'm a local who literally lives within walking distance of this place so it kinda sucked to be treated so poorly initially by the bouncer when I know for a fact they allow Marist and CIA kids with fake ID's to come in on a regular basis (as someone who is affiliated with both schools, I know this for a fact.) Please do better, Derby and treat your locals with actual legit ID's and hard earned money better and until then, I won't be...
