Not the best recent experience, was there with a co-worker, got there a few minutes before noon to beat the majority of the lunch rush, placed it orders and waited. Their order came out within 20 minutes, we preceded to converse for about ten minutes before I go inside to check on my order status. I'm told that it's coming right out, without said person checking which order was mine. I proceed to wait for another ten minutes during the rush of orders as people ordered and received theirs, so then I get a bit more agitated and again ask about my order, this time telling what my order number was. Come to find out, their was miscommunication between the cashier and the cooks, and they didn't have my order, so now +40 minutes later they START on my order, and about ten minutes after that I am finally handed my order. At this point I wasn't able to converse with my co-worker for this period and I've waited so long that I no longer have time to eat the meal that I have paid for.
This isn't the first time this had happened to me specifically when going here, I had gone in a group of 5 a couple months back and my order was the only 1 that was "delayed", I would really like to think it's not a race or discrimination thing, but it seems to be a fairly common occurrence at this place.
So if you are coming here for lunch, be weary if you are in a rush, if you have all the time in the world and want to chance the long wait, the food is pretty good, if just rating this place on the food it would probably get a 4 or 4.5 out of 5... But with these last two experiences I'm crossing this option off my list for a...
Read moreI live with a 25 year old dude (my nephew-in-law) that LOVES burritos. We went to 3 Heads for a fund raiser (they are amazing...) and decided to grab grub from Old Pueblo Grill on the way home. My nephew really didn't give us an option. "It's right across the street!" And...it was right across the street. LOL
The space is clean and neat. There are a handful of tables to sit down, but it has a take-out vibe. We all ordered Burritos and a couple of extras. (Beer and no food will do that). We all ordered the Cali Swag burritos and added Ceviche and PORK rinds. Really? Yes!
We got home and dug in. The ceviche was really good. I had low expectations...shrimp in a cup...? But the flavors were delicious. Lots of shrimp and crab mixed with lime juice were really good as we piled it onto our chips.
The burrito was HUGE and incredibly flavorful. The meat was tender with an amazing flavor that is hard to describe. And french fries (!). How can you go wrong. It was two meals.
And finally...the pork rinds. I ate them out of a bag at the bowling alley when I was 10. But warm, and crispy from Old Pueblo? This was heart attack Nirvana. My niece had never had this delicacy before and demanded to know why.
We had a great afternoon in the Neighborhood of the Arts with fun beer flights from 3 Heads Brewing followed up with an amazing dinner and munchies from The Old Pueblo Grill. Don't know where you live, but you should know that...
Read moreNative Tucsonan. The food is authentic, tasty, and reminds me of home. Agree with a lot of the comments, things are slow moving considering that the food is basically cart food. The chips are crispy and are perfectly salted. The green salsa was Amazing!! Tucson Dogs were perfect tasting, my wife commented that the bun was almost too good for a true Tucson dog. The fish tacos were exactly how they were back in my college days. The Al Pastor taco was savory and flavorful. The Horchata, albeit expensive, was exactly how it should be. Many have tried around town to make it, and Old Pueblo is the only one to execute it correctly.
Will DEFINITELY be back!!
For those complaining about 3 tacos for $11. This isn't canned mush refrieds, slaw, and 4 oz of some meat. It has flavor. It has taste. It took time to marinate and cook properly. If you were in Tucson you wouldn't even blink an eye at the price. Stick to your chain Mex restaurant if you want cheap with no flavor.
I'm sure the seating issue will be addressed in the summer when they can have outdoor seating. It would also help if people were willing to be communal and sit next to people they don't know and communicate. You might make new friends. Buffering yourself with coats and purses in a packed house...
