"Matilda's Coffee House & Kitchen", It's nice...... Yet I have mixed feelings about it.. It's Weird to think it was once "Moon Beans", and "Starry Nights" places that felt conducive for a community space, were friends could meet and feel comfortable to hang out in ... . I mean I liked the new name of the place, and the staff was super friendly, and attentive, and the Coffee I had was, OK, (It being no better or worse than most the coffee here in Rochester) and I am hearing great things about it's food.. I also liked the new layout. Yup, It's also uncluttered and way cleaner to, and bright, really really bright, to the point that it hurt my head, with white, and safe pastel colored walls, and neon purple lights that were supposed to be interesting but failed at that, as well as creating any kind of calming environment.. It was painfully bright ........ So as good as the new layout is, it's hindered by the interior design, that has all the sterile soulless charm one can expect of a Apple computer store, it screams white corporate chic, with little to no character, or comfort, (Hope you like hard metal chairs). This place feels more like a corporate headquarters cafeteria than a Coffee house. As I sat there getting a headache, I tried to to imagine, what a open mic would look like there.LOL! It's hard to believe this ever was a place where poets, artist, and musicians hung out, the neighborhood of the arts, is anything but that now.. But no worries, it seems like a great place to order food from, even if It's now just another safe, and gentrified uninspiring...
Read moreAfter hearing a lot of great things about Matilda, I finally had a chance to get in and check it out. Maybe unfairly, I set a pretty high bar for it because I used to love Starry Nites (had been going to that space for almost 20 years!). I was so happy and relieved to see that they took an iconic Rochester spot and made it into its own unique experience. Very different than what it was, but still 100% excellent in its own way. Really friendly staff, quick service, great coffee, comfortable, clean, and a completely unpretentious vibe. It's a small detail, but I was also happy to have the option of a couple different milk choices available. They were also very attentive and adherent to recent COVID protocols, I appreciate that. Overall, it's just really awesome and uplifting to see local people moving forward and opening a cool new place right now. Great addition to NOTA, I'll be back soon (especially now that they have...
Read moreWent here with a. Associate a d my oh my this place blew me away. My coffee was a moca late, and it was served with avacado toast. I think it was the perfect peering. The atmosphere and scenery was very different from the typical coffee shop. Which was quite nice, might I say.
The food was fresh. I mean, fresh, you could taste the difference. I've nade avcado toast before, but this was just exceptional.
Thank you very much for Service healthy and clean food.
++++ so overall, the customer service given by the cashier was like no other. She was so friendly with her upbeat and happy personality kinda mad I didn't ask her name... for some reason. I thought she was the owner but she was not and the fact she was so happy doing her job it made everything better. Next time I visit, I'll get her name.
