This place is a great find. It has amazing food at an amazing price as well as excellent service and unique clientele and quality prep and ingredients. It is a Rochester experience not to be missed. I heard about this place years ago and finally went. I was warned that there's maybe only one guy in Rochester who's allowed to pay by check at this place and everyone else has to pay cash. We had no problem with parking or getting a seat and service was very quick despite 90% of the restaurant being full. I totally recommend just getting their daily special and then returning every day of the week for a different special, but you have to come probably only one day a week because it's so much food. And everything's fresh prepared. It's like your Italian grandmother works there. The atmosphere is comfortable and made more so by the active crowd. It's a mix of people from around the neighborhood and around city. It's structure is unique in that you kind of squeeze around the end of the bar and go into a back room of seats or through another door to an additional annex room of seating. But the tables are comfortably spaced so that even after you have to loosen your belt, you'll still fit in your chair. And don't forget to tip well; the price is already very inexpensive. And plan to nap in...
Read moreI've heard about this place for years and finally got the opportunity to stop in... The building is ancient and a bit rough around the edges... As are the furnishings and decor inside... And I hope that never changes!
The gentleman who took our order said that it was opened by his great grandfather in 1949 and now, four generations later, is being run by his mother, sister, cousin and himself.
After tasting the sauce it is easy to see why Rocky's has stood the test of time. Not fancy but definitely FANTASTIC!
Seating is limited. The menu is limited to a few daily items plus daily specials. Only open for lunch except on Friday and Saturday. Not only do I not take exception to any of the limitations, I love the place more for them.
If you need additional recommendation, there were various members of the RPD and RFD having lunch or getting take out. I always trust the fire department and police department when it comes to great food!
Do not expect a fancy, five star restaurant... But you will get five star food and feel like part...
Read moreQuaint, low-key, unassuming landmark restaurant in Rochester, NY. Not far from Frontier Field, Rocky's is an unassuming restaurant - family run (for generations). Limited, southern Italian menu, but virtually EVERYTHING is delicious: home made and generous in portions. This place has a huge regular following, and for good reason. Nowhere else in Rochester can you get this quality of Italian food, and especially not at the extraordinary value prices they offer. Its hours are somewhat limited, as its more of a lunch joint than dinner. They close pretty early, I guess because the location is somewhat "fringe." Still, my wife and I became instant fans, most often heading over for dinner on a Friday - late afternoon (as they close I think at 6pm). Also a terrific Sunday staple. Be sure to check their routine, standard daily specials for extra value. Their tripe is a MUST - if you're into that sort of thing. Best in town!...
