I just read all the google reviews and I'd like to point out that each really low rating appears to have been handed out by folks who were trying the diner for the first time and happened to receive poor service. On the other hand, most of your high star ratings come from regulars who have made this diner part of their Rochester lives. So, that being said, I'd like to draw a few conclusions: The above makes perfect sense. Obviously, you aren't going to get a low rating from someone who frequents the diner, unless they're a masochist or some really lazy, carless, neighborhood dweller. The former, however, would enjoy poor food/service and the latter would be too lazy to write a review. So you can count them out of the pool of reviewers. Hence, ratings are going to be mathematically skewed bc of generally only getting these two types of raters. The key would then be to lessen the number of single bad experiences. Poor service motivates people to give a scathing review far more frequently than mediocre food. People with a single good experience rarely write a review. It's just a sad fact. All that being said, i have tried a limited number of menu items. I've never had a bad breakfast sandwich, there. But i feel that Highland Diner has better benedicts, though in all fairness, i only tried the benedict at SW Diner once. I think the atmosphere is reasonably nice, the service variable, and that, generally speaking, you get what...
Read moreStarted off great. I was taking out friends for morning breakfast after a wonderful prayer meeting. Waitress was helpful, providing suggestions to my pastor whose a Vegan. Food wasn't at its best. When the bill came it was $51.79 and I had only $55 so I put the rest for tip. Well to my surprise the waitress got offended and was angry and told the head waitress of my poor tipping. The head waitress came to the table and ask if service was satisfactory. Everyone at the table said yes. She came back again with the receipt and pointed out if i made a mistake in tipping as she wasn't sure if was a 3 or an 8. At that point I was totally embarrassed and I said her rudeness of coming to the table and pointing out what i gave was disrespectful. I also told her i seen the waitress attitude and was going to speak to her quietly explaining whu i couldn't tip her more, but having the head waitress point me out in front of people just let me know I shouldn't come here any longer. When I left I told the waitress "sorry i I had offended you" and she walked pass me with anger. I have been a waitress and in food service before and I don't expect tipping cuz I know people often time comes unprepared for the food bill and tip. I don't say you shouldn't give but to expect it tells me your in the...
Read moreDidn’t even have the opportunity to try the food as the service and atmosphere was so horrible, we left before ordering. Without a simple greeting, the hostess/server rudely explained I would be seated only once my guest joined (apparently there’s a sign detailing this ridiculous policy but if it’s there, ok fair). After finally being seated outside, the table was so lopsided and flimsy, we asked to be moved inside, twice. The first time, the same initial rude hostess/server must’ve forgotten or simply didn’t care since we had to ask another server again 10mins later. This second server was much nicer and brought us inside; only for the initial server to sit us at the bar—although two booths were available. We waited a while and when the first server walked by, we said we were ready to order. Dismissively, he says “We’re not in his section,” without even looking at us. Apparently, a less than 80 square foot dinner has sections, and the time it’d take to put in two order would be too much him. Final straw was a massive leak in the ceiling directly above our bar seats dripping a foul smelling liquid on our heads at which point we got up immediately left. Overall, 10/10 would NOT recommend, and restaurants like this albeit a small dinner give eating out in Boston even for...
