Flower City Arts Center — Attraction in City of Rochester

Currently taking an intermediate wheel pottery class. I've taken many classes at multiple studios outside of Rochester. I was very surprised that this studio does not supply any tools. The class fee is more than other studios and it doesn't include clay either. It's also disappointing that you do not get your own shelf to keep your stuff like I'm accustom to. I haven't started glazing yet but the glazing selection does look good and I like that they have a gas klin. Doesn't seem like they have a soda klin. In other studios, towels we're provided and washed for the students and the floors were also mopped by the staff and not the students. Open studio are are less and mostly only during times that most people work. I've also been accustomed fee firing of as many pieces as I can produce during the class time. Here it maxes out. Overall so far it seems like the few things the studio does supply there are not enough of. I'm not exactly sure what the class fee is...

I've taken a few ceramics classes here and even rented a shelf for a while. The classes were wonderful; great instructors and a super welcoming atmosphere. I think it's decent for students or people looking to try something new, but if you're a ceramics artist looking for a studio to work out of, I don't think this is a the place. They're overloaded, so it will take weeks to get glazed pieces back. Many of mine were chipped, had bits of the kiln shelf stuck to the bottom, or were just lost once I put them aside to be fired. My tools were stolen and never returned on a few occasions. My pieces were constantly moved around while i was gone. The department rarely answers the phone and the voicemail was always full. Tried a pottery class recently, the instructor kept saying "it's hard to explain, you just have to feel it". We missed the second class and the instructor was not at the third one. Apparently we hadn't missed anything? I wasn't interested in making the same "bowl" a third time, and my husband was having trouble getting even one out.
