Black River Ale House — Restaurant in City of Rome

Just moved back here to Rome, so I thought I would try it on a Wednesday night to see what it was like . . . didn't realize that it was such a dive . . . I'm by myself so I bellied up to the bar to have a beer and some dinner after work, The bar was full of drunken loudmouth jerks, The bartender for some reason couldn't take my food order, ordered a shaved prime rib sandwich that took about 20 minutes to come out, in a little paper bowl, sloppy with no fork, the meat hanging over the edge of the roll was cold . . . a person who I presumed was a waitress brought it out to me and called me "honey," she wanted payment right away, I didn't tip her although she was waiting for one, I'm not sure what she did for me other than walk a cold\lukewarm sandwich out 25 feet from the kitchen to where I was sitting at the bar . . . okay, so now I know it's a dirty little dive, and it'll be...

The hidden gem of the area, tucked away beneath a Goodyear. It's not a place you'd likely ever find by accident. The people here...the owner, the other patrons, and the bartenders in this little Cheers-like hole in the wall are probably the best thing about Rome. Was instantly welcomed as part of the family from the first time I walked in. Even though I was in New York, I felt like I was at my local bar back home in Mississippi. The food is well worth the price, and the drinks are probably the best deal you'll find anywhere--a nice escape after a long day of work! Enjoyed it so much, I came back for dinner every night during the week I was in town. If I'm ever back in the area, it's probably a safe bet that you'll find me here.

Michael Farnsworth gave this place a bad review but he ordered a prime rib sandwich on wing night ( busiest night of the week). Guy deserves the worse experience. YOU WANT THE BEST WINGS IN ROME WITH THE BEST ATMOSPHERE AND SERVICE IN TOWN!?!? Here’s your spot. Don’t be afraid to spark up a conversation with the person next to you because they are eager to talk. If you want a quiet, lonesome drink, a meal to yourself. And contemplating your life decisions like Michael Farnsworth, do us all a favor and go the applebees across the street you’ll be better received.
