I wish I had thought to take pictures, because this place was absolutely phenomenal.

Breakfast Platter, $14... three eggs, toast, bacon, hash browns, and a short stack of fairly huge pancakes. Everything was just about perfect, though I wish they could have gotten the hash browns a tiny bit crispier.

For $8 they have a cinnamon bun French toast, which is this enormous fat cinnamon bun sliced into thirds and then prepared frenchtoast style.

The omelettes are fairly large too.

Only three real gripes. Number one, they do not have a gluten-free bread or toast option. It d/n affect me, but did affect a couple of other people in the group I was with. Number two, a side of corned beef hash was $8. Maybe that's a really huge side, but that's a pretty steep price, an entree price for a side. I ended up not getting it. I would imagine, that had I goten it, it would have been excellent like everything else was. Number three, there's syrup is just regular National brand quote unquote pancake syrup, and while they do offer real maple syrup, it is a $3 upcharge.

But those were relatively minor gripes. The food is great, the service was fantastic, extremely friendly, extremely helpful, and very accommodating of special dietary needs (aside from tbe lack of GF toast) and food allergies, and willing to make reasonable substitutions were possible.

A very good experience. Five people ate more or less like happy pigs...

Family run short-order breakfast place, been around since 1958. Very easy to miss. Even using Google Maps, we drove right by it, had to double back. Boy, I'm glad we did!

A converted first floor of an old home, it's definitely old school, yet very clean and well maintained. We arrived a bit before the morning rush. The staff was very warm, friendly and attentive. They made sure we had beverages quickly, tool our order promptly and checked on us multiple times, even after things got busy. We sat at the counter so I could watch the action. Everything is fresh. Whole eggs, homemade Italian bread and the like. Sure, they had home fries, bacon and sausage mostly cooked on the grill, but this is a short-order place. The woman running the grill was efficient, accurate and fun to watch in action.

I had an eggplant and mozzarella omelette, which was awesome! Italian bread toast was outstanding too. Give Peter Pause a try....

If you want a true diner experience with a flare of more upscale options, then this is your place. The best breakfast in the capital area by far. A very tiny place that you'll see filled at all times with eager locals, that goes often to experience what they expect each and everytime... consistent great food, service, and variety. You'll have to try the Dutchmen, named after the Union Colleges Team Name, I've been getting the same dish, for over 30 years. Three Eggs, Italian Sausage Pattie, Crispy Home fries, and Homemade Italian Toast(You don't have to be Italian to enjoy is masterpiece.) If breakfast isn't your thing, they offer a slew of lunch items, from Pasta, Chicken & Eggplant Parmigiano, Soups, and Sandwiches. So get yourself down there and experience it for yourself, you won't be...

First timer for breakfast. Place was empty. Food was prepared fast but the toast was burnt. Seems like it should have been fixed since there was no one else waiting for food. Place looked clean enough and the waitress was nice so no issues there. The eggs were good, the bacon was good but the potatos weren't very good at all. Tasteless and barely warm. The coffee was terrible. The french toast was pretty good, nice and moist but it could have used real maple syrup. Not the end of the world though and the stand out of the meal. This place seems like a standard 2.5 but I bumped it up to a 3 because the staff was nice and that matters.

I recently visited Peter Pause, and the first word that comes to mind is cozy 🥰 It's a small, inviting spot with just 2-3 people running the kitchen. I think it might be my new favorite breakfast place in the area, and I can't believe they've been family-operated since 1958! I had their grilled pumpkin muffin (YUMMMMMM), pumpkin coffee, and the SPP sandwich -- sausage patty with provolone and peppers with Mac n' cheese on the side. That sandwich was so juicy and thick! My boyfriend ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette and corned beef hash on the side, which was fantastic. I can't wait to return and try their pancakes next time ^_^
