Stella’s Creamery & Cakes — Restaurant in City of Schenectady

To preface my rating, I'm the minority here due to my lactose intolerance.

I got really excited when I heard about Stella's having lactose free custard on their menu. I got extra excited when I saw 20+ lactose free flavors listed on their website. I've had the lactose free orange creamsicle and black raspberry custard flavors - Both absolutely delicious! So creamy and yummy!

However, my score is primarily due to poor service and mis-advertisement. We've been here twice and we've had a service-related issue both times. They got my husband's order wrong twice; when they attempted to fix the first cone, they again got the second cone wrong. Moreover, their website is misleading in that it lists all the lactose free flavors, but we later found out that they swap these flavors every week or so...sometimes. In other words, not all flavors are available at all times. There are even weeks that they will only have the Dole flavors available without any lactose free custard options. It would be really helpful if their website can be updated to clarify this, even if it was just to state that lactose free custard flavors may not always be available. We've learned to call ahead now - Except that each time we call, we get a different answer from the staff and confusion as if they did not realize they even had lactose free options. I try to follow Stella's Instagram because I noticed they'll post their flavor now and then, but I can never tell if it's current or if they've already swapped flavors by the time I see the post.

Overall, they have really good ice cream. They are one of the only lactose-free soft serve options around. I can always count on enjoying their lactose free flavors when available; however, I wish their communication would be better so those with dietary restrictions can be...

We have been coming to Stella’s since they opened and usually always have a good time. Tonight we were not impressed at all. I get the same thing every time my family comes. I get a blue raspberry w/ sprinkles. Simple enough. I ordered it on a sugar cone. The same way I ALWAYS do even when they were originally Bumpys. The staff tells me they can’t do it. I said I’ve always gotten it the same way unless something has changed and she insisted that they have never done it that way 🫠. I get it in a dish and it’s not even mixed…(I get that it won’t be completely mixed but it was barley mixed at all) We ordered a kiddie size for my son. They give us a small. Didn’t even inform us of the size difference. As anyone with small kids would know- a small is A LOT for a 2 year old. I’ve gotten a Kiddie many times before, now they don’t do those either. Welp I wish I could tell you how this place is! I came to order an Ice Cream cake. Websites says they need 48 hours to make. Completely a waste of my time because the counter employee said they need 3-5 business days! WTH is going on? Do people not want to make money? Customer services sucks! Not worth it!

Update * As you can see the owner has chosen to respond with excuses and not apologies! If your website reflected this or if your employee not so rude there would be no issue! I am a small business owner myself… I expect better! I made my own! So it can’t be that difficult! And now regardless of the time of year I would not by anything from you and I will tell all my clients in the area to do that same all because YOU WOULDN’T accept responsibility for your mis messaging on your website!
