Bleu Monkey Cafe — Restaurant in City of Syracuse

Six months ago I posted a 5 star review because this place was amazing in every way for the dine-in experience.

Unfortunately, when I returned today, the dine-in was terrible. Food was the same, however, it sucked to have our plates delivered at separate times. I had to sit and watch my partner eat/ask for some of their food while I waited for mine to come out.

The seating area used to be dim lit with small dark tables and have a bamboo privacy screen between the workers and the people eating. Now, when you dine in, you feel like you're eating in a hospital and you're being watched by the 6 random workers standing and doing nothing behind the counter.

Ordering is now done at a kiosk in front of the entrance now and the menus are ugly and hard to read. The kiosk also prompts you to tip 15%-30% before you have had any service at all. Our service was scattered across multiple unfriendly staff members and we had to ask for water after all the food was delivered.

Ended up taking some soup to go and had to stand up and wait in line to ask for a container. The kid working passed me a single 12oz thin plastic tupperware WITHOUT A LID. You can't make this up.

The Bleu Monkey is dead...

Dined in with my husband, and waitress was extremely pushy for us to order and then extremely rude throughout meal. When my husband’s food came, the fish in his sushi was clearly bad, causing him to spit it into a napkin. The waitress took it away and didn’t come back to the table. After waiting for about 15 minutes, we went to the counter to pay and she told us to go back to our seats. I told her we just wanted to pay and then we were leaving. She gave us the bill and she charged us for the sushi with the bad fish. My husband told her he would pay it, but that they would lose ya as customers, so she rolled her eyes and told us to take it up with her boss. He came over and told us that we were going to pay for it, because the sushi was missing off of the plate. Oh? But the missing sushi was in the napkin that the waitress was in such a hurry to clear. I told him i wanted to pay so that we could leave. We will not be returning, and I do not recommend this place. They have HORRIBLE customer service.

We tried Bleu Monkey while visiting near the Syracuse University area. Parking is on near-by paid lots or on the street at meters and difficult to find. Don't let that stop you from visiting. The food was traditional with a casual twist. They offer an abbreviated lunch menu but if you prefer you can order from the dinner menu. My table mate had a sushi dinner which came with a bowl of miso soup and a salad. He thought the sushi was good and the salad was fresh. I had a special lunch roll with eel (unagi). I thought it was good but came with a sauce on top that overpowered the flavor of the roll. I ordered a seaweed salad. It was very good with a light and slightly oil-vinegar flavor. There were lots of sesame seeds and a tiny bit of hot pepper. They offer bento boxes, appetizers, soups and salads. Many guests were eating what appeared to be curry. Portions were typical. We had hot green tea which came in a large mug rather than a pot. They offer indoor or outdoor tables and seating at the sushi bar. Service...
