Varsity, at the corner of Crouse and Marshall in Syracuse has been around seemingly forever. It’s pretty much a way of life at Syracuse University. ‘Meet me at Varsity’ was a thing back when I was a student there, and it still is today as the next generations of students makes it their own. Yeah, Varsity is definitely a tradition at the CUSE. Their menu is pretty expansive and hasn’t change much in the last decade or so. They have a lot of sandwich and sub options, as well as some wraps. A fan favorite has always been their wings and pizza. Those two staples alone kind of put Varsity on the map, and that’s what I ordered. The chicken wings were as good as ever. Nice and crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The BBQ sauce was just perfect. The pepperoni slice that I got to accompany the wings was also good. The crust was particularly outstanding. Loved it! A lot has changed on Marshall St. over the last decade or so. A few beloved shops are gone replaced by the flavor of the day. Some old-time places have thankfully remained, with Varsity being one of them. Whenever I make the drive up from the City for a football or basketball game, I try and stop in for a quick bite. This is a place worth going to when you’re in the area. The food is great and the people are friendly. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Still great after all these years. Their pizza has the best toppings and crust in town. Try the "Varsity" pizza which has red sauce and mozzarella with a delicious combination of 2 meat (pepperoni & sausage) and 3 vegetable (onion, bell pepper, & mushroom) toppings. Also, while you're waiting for Elli to cook your pizza, place an order for 5 or 10 wings with Gus and he'll call out your name when they're ready to pick up. There are many additional comfort foods on the menu, and all of the ones I've tried are good. While you're eating, check out the college flags hung on the walls. Depending on the time of the year, if a flag is upside down it means that the Syracuse basketball or football team beat that school during the current season. Sadly, if the flag is upright it means we lost. POST- PANDEMIC UPDATE-1: Elli is still making the best pizza in town. I know it's a selfish thought, but I hope she never retires. UPDATE-2: During a lunch at the Varsity with friends, I learned that Syracuse University has purchased the restaurant and may tear it down in the next 2 years. If this is true, it reflects very badly on President Syverud of Syracuse University. Hopefully, alumni will unite in opposition.

I was traveling with my Mom to Lake Placid & stopped at Syracuse University to meet up with her best friend & old collage roommate. Her roommate said this was the best & most well known restaurant in town & she wasn’t kidding! This place has TONS of seating & incredible food options! We ordered a pizza for the table of mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, garlic, & feta. It was hands down the best pizza I’ve ever eaten! The staff were also incredibly welcoming & very friendly! If your ever in the neighborhood of Syracuse University you NEED to eat here! This would absolutely be a homecoming favorite! Cheers!

I like this place for the tradition it represents to the Syracuse University community and to The Wider Syracuse community that supports the campus. Tracing its beginnings back to 1926, it is clearly an anchor to the Marshall Street business district in the center of the main campus. You can depend on getting a good thin crust pizza either by the pie or slice. They also offer a large variety of all the comfort foods serving the demands of college students and those attending events on campus. But check the times before you plan to go after a game or an event. For some reason they don't arrange their business hours around normal times for when games let out. This is often a disappointment for those who might have travel to far to return to their alma mater with family and friends for a game or other events on campus and wanting to revisit some of their old stomping grounds like...
