Came for the first time after work for a drink and something to eat and left pretty disappointed. The Google listing and website makes the place seem nicer than it actually is. The countertops are in desperate need of replacement and the entire atmosphere just was run down and dull and very small. Didn’t get the impression that this was an Irish pub, more so it’s just the name that is Irish and the way they design the website. Immediately as I sit down at the bar the bar tender (bald with a big beard) tells me “we’re cash only” the way he said it didn’t seem welcoming and a sign he wasn’t expecting me to stay. While I was looking over the menu I noticed the bar tender was eating his Chinese takeout lunch directly across from me. If this bartender isn’t eating the food here then that gives me a sign that I shouldn’t either. I ordered a Jack & Coke and the Mac & Cheese bites because I assumed they were frozen and safe to eat. I’m 27 and this bar didn’t seem welcoming to young people. Seemed everyone there were regulars and 45+ years old. All I’d recommend for the owner and bar tender is to be more aware of the experience you create for new customers. It’s easy to get in the habit of doing the bare minimum when you see the same people everyday. In result it affects the quality of...
Read moreI’m writing this responding to a poor review. First of all, this is a neighborhood bar. Some might call it a dive bar, and if you’re the kind of person who understands how neighborhood bars work, then you know that you want certain things from that bar.
Guilfoil’s is a gem. You walk in and find a spot. You wait your turn at the bar, and maybe that takes a few minutes. You pay cash because that saves money. The beer is cold and cheap, the whiskey pours are generous and cheap, the food is tasty and cheap. The jukebox plays the widest variety of music and nobody complains when you play your favorite song. There are sports on the TVs, and maybe a dog at your feet looking for a treat. This is exactly what an Irish pub is like. If you’ve traveled, either in the US or Ireland, you know that the Irish pub is a refuge, but not for the persnickety. It’s on its own time, and in its own place. You adjust to the Irish pub because you know that’s how it should be.
I go to Guilfoil’s because they are happy to provide that brief respite from the rat race. It’s a slower pace, but that’s what I want when I’m there. People are friendly when you talk genuinely with them and who could ever want...
Read moreWe visited about 2pm to good reviews. We were greeted after being there for almost 10 minutes and taking a random seat. The bartender lady was nice after she noticed us. We came just for the food not the bar. We got some wings and I got a burger. The burger was nothing good and it was dry and a bit tasteless, as was the rest of the food, neither me or my wife finished. Then we were told after we ate they don't take any cards, which we do not carry cash very often, we had to use the atm in the corner and pay a fee, which sucked. We wish we had known beforehand. Would...
