I don't want to sound uppity but I have had these Bahn Mi sandwhiches in many states and had a place in Chicago I truly feel I was addicted to. I moved here to Syracuse and went to every vietnamese and thai place I could find. I just love that kind of food. Well Ky Duyen done did it all right for me. AMAZING DELICIOUS FRESH. I cant say enough good things about them and the place is literally a "mom and pop" . When my boyfriend and I went we were kindly greeted by both owners, offered to sit anyplace we like. A few minutes later the sweet old man came to deliver our sandwhiches and had such a proud look on his face, and he should have. Sounds of chopping veggies, grilling meat, etc. Basicly making sandwhich fit for kings. Every little thing was perfection. The toasted bread, fresh cilantro, lightly pickeled carrots, We didnt think we were going to finish but we surely did. And ordered a couple more to go. Yes ma'am we were hooked. We go at least once a week, would be more often but we are very poor. So here it is. They make 4 sandwhiches. That is the entire menu. Cash only, $6 each, tax included. Please go try their sandwhiches. It doesnt matter which one you order, they are all fantastic, my boyfriend likes the #2 best though if you want a recommendation. The place has a terrible sign,(I am an artist and painting them a new one, But it's a surprise for them, so hush! dont say anything guys) It doesnt look like much from outside but go here, please give them a try.. You can tell the pride and skill which goes into each sandwhich they make. The space inside is really unique and kinda cool, so much potential. . I am trying to spread the word about Ky Duyen, I truly love this place. Go, get a sammich,...
Read moreOn "No Reservations," Anthony Bourdain claimed the Song Que Deli in Arlington, VA made "the best bahn mi [he'd] ever had outside of Vietnam."
I ate at the Song Que Deli before it closed; I had their bahn mi. The bahn mi at Ky Duyen completely knocks that other one out of the park. THIS is the best bahn mi outside of Vietnam. It perfectly blends the savory, the sweet, and the spicy together into a mastery of the form.
I haven't been to Vietnam, but it's quite possible this is the best bahn mi in the world. I will report back after visiting there.
If you are a fan of hole-in-the-wall sandwich shops, this is the pinnacle of the genre. It's located in an old pool hall. There is a cart near the entrance that says "bahn mi." They make three sandwiches, which are all variants of the same sandwich.
This place is a treasure of Syracuse cuisine, and one of the best things I have had the privilege of eating on this earth.
"See you next time!" She knows you'll be back, and you...
Read moreUpdate (11/7/2023): Finally got to come back as I had the day off from work and could make it up before they sold out. Banh Mi is still great, though I found that I very much did not enjoy the cold cut option. I’ve now had 3 (BBQ Pork), 1 (Roasted Pork), and 2 (Cold Cut) and would recommend them in that order. BBQ pork was amazing, roasted pork was great, and cold cut had me questioning if I wanted to finish it. Not bad or gross, just completely not my taste/preference. I fully plan on being back in the future to try number 4 (shredded pork) so I can figure out which one is truly my favorite and future go to.
Original: Best bahn mi I’ve ever had, and the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Will absolutely be back.
As a heads up, if there is a line inside it will likely take a while, but...
