This square is surrounded by some of the most eye-catching and magnificently architected buildings in downtown Syracuse, a reminder of the city's heyday in the 1800s as a bustling commercial center. This boom period was due largely to the Erie Canal. It's not too apparent when you first step foot here but the canal actually once ran through the center of this square, which was later landfilled as canal operations ceased. If you want to learn more about the history of the canal and the portion of it that ran through Syracuse, visit the Erie Canal Museum close by, itself a historic building that once functioned as a weighlock facility.

Read moreThis review is more about Downtown Syracuse. It is a small downtown area where you can admire great architecture and wonderful green areas. There are some nice quaint restaurants; however, they all seem to open during specific times during the day at lunch time and at night during dinner time. Anything in between, you will have to find alternative among the few restaurant that stay open. Syracuse it is a cute little place to explore during a day, better to do it during summer time since winter in this part of NY is quite rough. Taste of Syracuse, Sikhism festival, are just some things I've attended. The best festival I've been to to be honest is the Sikhism Festival. The people we're so welcoming, they immediately pointed me, my sister, Dad and my son, to the food where we all got Pepsi and a tray full of delicious Italian cuisine.
