We've been going to Franco's for 25 years. Fantastic pizza and wings. But last night was the final straw in a long line of terrible customer service experiences, and sadly we won't be back. I recommend no one go there. A quick summary...
4:30 - we placed an order for 2 large pizzas and 50 wings for delivery. They told us it would be 60-90 minutes because the weather was bad. Totally understandable. Paid with a credit card over the phone.
6:15 - no food. We call to check on the order - whoever answers the phone says the driver just left. Will be there any minute.
6:45 - still no food. I call back - the guy who answers tells me the first guy was wrong, but if it makes me feel any better, the driver is on his way now.
7:15 - STILL NO FOOD. I call again and say it's been nearly 3 hours since we ordered. He said "yeah.... it hasn't gone out yet. The driver will be leaving soon." I told him I've now been lied to 3 times and we'll just come pick it up but don't expect to pay for it (at least full price). He says "you can come get it but I can't do anything for you. But you can come get it the whole order is sitting right here."
7:45 - my husband and cousin arrive to pick up the pizza - they have not even cooked the wings yet. They wait for the food 15 minutes. During that time my cousin mentions that this is no way to run a business. The guy working asked him to leave. Charged us full price (nearly $60!). The kicker?? The order was wrong! Not even the right food. We took it anyway as our kids were now up past their bedtime and we were all starving.
Long story short - we paid full price for the wrong food that we had to pick up 3.5 hours after ordering. Avoid this place if you want to keep your sanity. No food is worth...
Read more15 dollar minimum is against the Law also does not apply to debit cards.
No, a merchant in Upstate New York cannot legally enforce a $15 minimum for credit card purchases. Federal law, which applies nationwide, caps the maximum credit card minimum at $10. Any merchant caught violating this can be reported to the credit card network. Here is what you need to know about credit card minimums in New York: Federal cap is $10. The Dodd-Frank Act allows businesses to set a minimum purchase amount on credit card transactions, but it cannot exceed $10. This applies to both upstate and downstate New York. Applies to all credit cards equally. A merchant that imposes a minimum must apply it uniformly to all credit card brands, including Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Doesn't apply to debit cards. Merchants are not allowed to set a minimum purchase requirement for debit card transactions. Surprise fees are illegal. A new state law that went into effect in February 2024 requires businesses to be transparent about any credit card surcharges. They must either display the higher price with the surcharge included or post both the credit and cash prices. They cannot advertise one price and then add a surcharge at the point of sale. If you encounter a merchant charging a credit card minimum over $10 in New York, you can file a complaint with the New York State Division of Consumer Protection or the Attorney...
Read moreJust found this Franco's Pizza maybe a year ago. Im from Rome, so rarely get to this part of Utica. We had a Francos Pizza in Rome on Floyd ave about 30 years ago when I was a teenager. A block from my house. I was there maybe 5 days a week having there 2 slice and soda special.
Unfortunately it closed I beleive in the early 90s. Very sad day. Well, since discovering Franco's on Trenton, My love life for Franco's Pizza has been re-ignited. It is the exact same pie that the owners from Rome would make. And, yes after talking to the owner at the Trenton Rd. location he confirmed it was one of the original Franco's from long ago.
From what I can remember about the owners from Rome, the gentlemen resembled Jim Croce, with the hat to boot. And I believe it was his wife and her sister who were always there also.
Very nice people.
In regards to the current owner and staff, a very nice and pleasant fellow. And his staff are always above the cut with service and the quality of food. Im very impressed with their food every time I order.
Mind you I drive the 25 minutes ride from Rome to Utica specifically for their pizza.
KEEP UP THE GREAT...
