I remember when this restaurant opened years ago. I was happy to see a Latino cuisine restaurant in the neighborhood! Their food was genuinely good, in my opinion. They had everything you could've craved, whether you were a health conscious person who prefers healthy, natural meals or the type who prefers deep fried foods. I remember i would go to the gym, and afterwards, I'd reward myself with some baked chicken and vegetables from here... and sometimes I'd order some tostones and ate 2-3. Lol! They shut down for a while due to the pandemic, but they recently reopened. They're now on Grubhub, which makes it convenient for those who do not have time to wait an hour or so (insane!). I know I'm one of them! However, I will sadly say that I just don't feel the quality of the food is the same now. It does not look good and it does not taste good... of course, it depends on your preference and taste buds, however. I would love to see healthier options. I have recently ordered baked chicken and some other chicken (not sure about the name... dark meat with too much sauce and spices) . They were both way overly seasoned and greasy, and if you have it with a side order, they seem to assume everyone likes their side orders drowning in greasy sauce. I see lots of very negative reviews on customer service. I have not had such experience, thankfully, but I've always refused to go there when they're super busy and there's a long wait. I simply have no time. I hope something is learned from the negative reviews and/or constructive criticism from customers. I hope customer service and the quality of their food improves. Please go back to your beginnings when things were much better! It's a shame that one of the 2 Latino food spots in the area has such bad rap, and as a Dominican individual myself, it's not cool that some people might think all Dominicans are rude and eat greasy food with total disregard to what we put into our bodies.

This spot just reopened after being closed a while . The food before was pretty good depending on what you got but a tad overpriced for rice and beans and proteins smothered in oil and sauce . Fast forward to Sunday 3/14/2022 and the food is even more overpriced . I asked for rice and beans and I literally got a condiment size side of black beans . And it was mostly water . Look at the pic . Frustrated I can't find good carribean food in Yonkers / Westchester unless I go to south Broadway or dyckman . Look at the items pictured . I paid 33 for those meals . 2 pieces of chicken , no rice and beans and a small pernil /rice with a ketchup size of watered down beans . Fresh Juice and 1 empanada . The food is overly salted and oily . The pernil was super oily and super soggy cuero... change the name to Soggy Cuero . Why are all the proteins other than the fish in that thick dark salty sauce ? Almost like they are trying to mask the quality of the protein . I am not going back . Should have asked for a refund . Pernil was not good . 5/10. Empanada was 8/10 , chicken 7/10 , value : 1/10 . When people go to these places they want rice and beans plus a good protein -not rice with bean water the size of two tequila shots . Lola fell off the grill ...

Went to Lola’s for the first time on Sunday 7/16 at ~345pm to get some Spanish takeout. I found meter parking right outside the restaurant. It is a small, compact place, clean and well organized. I Explained to the manager it was my first time there and she was extremely helpful in helping me with my order. I ended up ordering a large jerk chicken over yellow rice, large beef short ribs with onions over yellow rice, an order of yucca, and an order of sweet plantains. Cost for all that was around $44, which struck me as a little pricey, but the quality of the food is undeniable. So far, I have turned my beef short ribs into three separate meals, and the meat was amazingly tender and flavorful. Ditto for the jerk chicken, my wife said it was simply wonderful, spicy and very flavorful but not too spicy. I was very happy with the level of service I got, and the fact that they took the time to explain everything to me and answer all my questions. I am Going back there again today to get more food. They seem to have somewhere in the order of 15 to 20 different dishes available, so the best way to pregame is to look at their online menu before you get there.

October 2023

The restaurant offers a fairly standard culinary experience with average food quality. The prices lean towards the higher side, and the removal of the grilled chicken with garlic sauce from their menu was a notable disappointment.

The management, especially an older woman with reddish hair who seems to be in charge, leaves much to be desired in terms of customer service. Her interactions are often untruthful, condescending, and argumentative. Her disposition is downright rude! Even when I was the only person waiting to place an order, I found myself being ignored. This led me to withhold my patronage and take my business elsewhere. After all, there's no need to spend money where rudeness is served.

The establishment itself is quite compact with no seating available for customers, operating on a takeout-only basis. The space for standing and placing orders is also limited.

However, there was a silver lining in the form of a young man named Bryan who used to work there. His polite, engaging, informative, and hospitable nature was truly the best thing about this place.

3 year ago:

The only reason I gave it two stars is because the food is very good. The owner and staff are not so good, with customers. Quite frankly, they are rude. On several occasions both had ignored me while I waited to place my order. There was a time when I must have waited at least 10 to 15 minutes to place my order. I stood at place to order and the then the cash register; no one helped. The workers were checking the hot foods and the owner walked back and forth to the front and back of the place; but no one acknowledged my presence. A person came in from outside and the owner acknowledged him right away; asking what he wanted to order, as I stood there waiting! Even the person who just walked in acknowledged that I was there before him. Only then did the owner take my order. That was the last time I ever went back.

This evening was worse experience I had at the Lola on the Grill Restaurant. I went in ordered Pernil with rice & beans for 2 people, Lady with short bleached hair ( owner, I certainly hope not!) She states being the owner & her name being Lola. It was only I & another women. I ordered, asked if her prices had gone up as she was charging me $21.95 plus $5.95 for small portion of Yuca. I had two $10. Bills, cost was $30.36, I had given her another $20. Bill not noticing, I asked for an itemized receipts, stood to side, as she hurriedly dealt with me, I'm counting my money and I'm short on change. I calmly asked her she had forgotten to give me my change. I explained in detail the bills I handed to her, The lady with short bleached hair begins to get defensive, unprofessional stating that I always go in there causing an issue. I'm taken back by her comments as she's telling me off in front of another customer, I stated no your always miserable & have no professional people skills, she refuses to correct the situation, I ask her to look at the cameras, has the audacity as an older women to call me fat! It was just beyond ridiculous, At this point The other women was so kind to pull me aside to intervene & remove me from the situation. I honestly don't recommend anyone to give this person business. The food is over priced, over cooked with saltiness, the miserable so called owner is a disgusting human being. I had to call the police for assistance. The police were very courteous & helpful. The so called owner kept my $10. The issue is not the money, it's the principal of a disgusting greedy unprofessional person who works at a restaurant. Food is the heart & soul of our existence. For you to be a owner & be beyond disgusting in your manner of running a business is terribly awful.. I will never set foot in that establishment ever. Do yourself a huge favor and do not go there. Lesson learned. I'm a huge supporter of small businesses & our community, It's gracious to be welcoming, kind & have educational values in being helpful with customers. This miserable lady should not ever work or...
