We're not very well versed in Thai food, being more into Indian, but we fancied a change and decided to give Monkey Thai Diner a try. The young lady serving was very pleasant and didn't let us over order, while helping us with some decisions.
We started with chicken satay and Thai style roti both very good, but particularly the satay dipping sauce which was addictive. We then went with Kee Mao with "ducky" (crispy duck to you and me) and crispy chicken stir fry and asked for level 3 spice since I thought my wife may not like level 4. A good decision, since as an Indian veteran who can handle hot, I thought level 3 had a bloody good kick. The Kee Mao noodles were delicious and the portion of duck on top generous with some really crispy skin which we both loved. The stir fry comes with vegetables cooked in a delicious gravy with the crispy chicken on top and a side of white rice. I've just finished the leftovers for lunch while watching my Redskins start well vs The Giants and it was just as good next day. If you're looking for ambience, this isn't the place. It's just an honest to goodness diner serving delicious Thai....
Read moreSuch a unique setting: a roadside Thai restaurant situated in a diner car. Only in New Jersey, with its diversity, Asian immigrant enclaves, and diner culture. And it's cute, cozy, and clean inside! The food is the best authentic Thai food I've had in NJ. The chef really knows how to balance between the acidity, sweetness, and spiciness that's characteristic of Thai cuisine. You see this coming out with the larb, where mint and basil are also fresh. Green curry was gentle and slightly sweet, yet bursting with flavor. It's a small detail but the music reminded me of a Thai cafe - very pleasant.
It won't be long until this spot has long wait times. I'm hoping they keep the charm and coziness similar to this Thai diner car if they ever expand. Truly 5/5 stars from me - it's my favorite new restaurant I've eaten...
Read moreHad the night to myself and decided on Thai. Thought I'd give Monkey Thai a try. Ordered the pad thai and the steamed dumplings to go. Arrived at location and saw that the front stairs were being repaired. It actually is an old diner and they just opened 3 months ago. I can't say I noticed much of inside. But it was quiet and seemed a nice place to eat. Took my meal home and started with the dumplings. They were perfect. Nice size, still hot, no minced meat. You could actually taste the pieces of shrimp. Next, the pad thai. Nice size portion. Thin slices of chicken perfectly seasoned. Just the right amount of heat and no beansprouts, as ordered. Overall a very good meal for a good price. Give...
