My review will be a little biased because Hawaii locals take care of Hawaii locals.
Let’s break it down for you, Arapaap means dreams, or a series of thoughts you have while you sleep. I believe the meaning is derived from after you eat their food and it puts you into a coma of heavenly flavors and then you dream more about their food.
I go here to get my local fix. The chef, definitely knows what he is doing, I sense he has a culinary background, the way he mends Asian pacific cuisine, reminds me of trips to watch culinary competitors at the Kapiolani Culinary Academy. This is all based on a guess. Anything or everything you imagine what a “point style” (not that complicated, food is on a display and you point to it, and they box it up for you), or in the words of my ancestors “turo turo” (to point or to teach).
I’m hoping their success prospers and they keep dreaming the culinary dream.
The only thing I have not eaten is their musubis. I think it’s sacrilegious or terms for divorce, after all I am married to the mama of musubis. However, their rectangular and triangular shape steams the plastic in the early morning luring people in one by one.
With the new stadium coming up, their location is prime real estate for a grand business venture.
Aloha, Arapaap and keep feeding...
Read moreI teetered between 3 and 4 stars, so let's say it's 3.5. I've been several times. Here are the downfalls. 1) the establishment is tiny. There is no place to eat inside and only a few picnic tables outside. They are quite popular and it can get cramped and confusing while ordering. 2) 2 out of 3 visits, an order was wrong. I ordered noodles and received rice. I ordered firecracker chicken and received just plain chicken. After a hike to the car to eat, since there was not an available spot there, it wasn't worth going back to have it corrected. 3) the menu offerings change. I love the katsu chicken and it was not available 2 out of 3 visits. You never know what will be available. 3) kind of pricy. 2 firecracker chicken combos and a couple of not cold drinks from a cooler was nearly $50 with tax (and tip, of course). This pricing is like a nice sit down restaurant where you are served. Now for the good.
I went here based on the 4.9 rating and reviews. As I walked outside with my items and sat down at the umbrella covered picnic tables, watching people walked in and out of the building with drinks and food I was so happy that I decided to go.
I was welcomed with a friendly hello and if I had any questions and/or ready to order. Being that it was my first time, I was unsure of what to eat so I took some time to gaze at the items on display and a cute family being helped by a family member who was assisting them. I decided to order a brown sugar boba with almond milk…YUM! 😋 Drink order/pick up was on one side of the store. I noticed the SM, MD, & LG box sizes so you pretty much choose what you want to eat and boxed up. I chose the SM fried noodles…a soy or spicy sauce just to give it extra flavor would be delightful to try. Spam Musabi and macaroni salad…Delicious! They’re were day specials listed on a board above the drink cooler. The food and drink total for one was less than $20 and a tip jar at the registers.
I enjoyed the taste of Hawaii without ever having to visit the islands. If your a foodie, a quick bite and enjoy Asian cuisine then you should definitely go! 🌺🌴 I can’t...
