My husband and I brought some friends from out of town to dine in. After waiting an hour (absolutely fine we did not have a reservation), we were seated. Immediately, the music is jolting. Atmospherically the place is nice however, the music is oddly loud for the type of music that it is as well as the vibe of the establishment. One of our friends along with me ordered the Mongolian beef and broccoli dish only to end up having to send it back. Our other friend, upon receiving her side of fried tried to help out the man handing her the fries since we were sat close to the wall and he snatched them out of her hands to set them on the table. We thought that odd as the bowl the fries were in did not come out hot to the touch of anything. This was also the first time both of us had ever sent a dish back so it was unfortunate as it was SO salty to the point it was inedible. Our server was MIA our whole time dining and only came to refill our glasses once as we were about to leave. We ended up having to wave him over to send the dish back but not before he made a snide comment at my friend about the water in his pitcher having ice in it. She ordered a sprite with no ice but must’ve thought for whatever reason that we were flagging him down for a refill. He ended up exchanging our dishes and all was well. We got the checks and realized our tips had been calculated by the subtotals of our meals with the dishes that had been sent back still on there even though our server had taken them off. We still tipped our server as we do live in a country where servers are not paid a living wage and rely on tipping culture. What is making me write this review though is the fact that my husband is currently down with food poisoning after eating a smash burger. Our friends did not feel great after their meals either but the only one currently sick is my husband. So not only did we have a subpar experience dining in, my poor hubby is STILL paying the price of...
Read moreWe are locals and we try to promote local businesses. The staff from the bar, seemed to be unhappy at work. There wasn't a hello acknowledgement. When he started to tell us about the special drinks. The music was so loud we couldn't hear him. Bartender asked, (we didn't) if they would turn down the music so we could hear him. The lady sitting at the bar (manager) who was working on a computer, looked at us like, "really get over it". The personal attitude of the staff seems they don't want to be here. Pest control needs more work and the sink drains( staff should do this every morning and evening cleaning) need to be cleaned better, as they have a very apparent small fly issue. Hand washing needs to be done every hour and if you touch personal items (clothes, hats, cell phones, their personal drinks and money also) then you MUST wash hands again. We have seen them do this again and again during our visit. Need more training Rabun Social from someone that understands ServSafe, better because the staff needs help. FYI kitchen closes 3-4. Only bar is open during that time. Over all the spicy tuna roll was good however it is difficult to enjoy when shooing flies away. We will try again but hopefully a better experience next time. Hoping for next time the charm. We try to give 2-3 times before we walk away. An added note: this was our 2nd visit. On the 1st visit we spoke with the owner about the Flores how to prevent them, we spoke of the food safety issues as well as making drinks and presentation thereof. My husband is professional food safety he teaches the ServSafe people. This is...
Read moreFor a starter, we had the tuna tartare and pork dumplings. Tuna tartare was excellent. The dumplings were good enough, but nothing that will stay in my memory.
Sushi was very good. Salmon nigiri, Rabun spicy roll, and samauri roll, I'd recommend them all.
The wagyu smash burger was the highlight, great flavor. Good fries.
My next favorite was the honey garlic chicken and rice. I really enjoyed it.
The ramen was very bland, and there was much less broth than I am accustomed to, having had excellent ramen from Seattle to DC down to Florida. The noodles piled high above the broth.
The pad thai was very dry. We requested more sauce, and after adding that, it was still very dry. No dimension or complexity in flavor. Just dry with a lot of peanuts.
Coming from an area with some of the best Thai, Korean, and Japanese food, the dishes just didn't hold up to the hype and authenticity.
Service was okay. When paying, I asked for clarification if a large party tip was included and was told no, so I tipped 20%. When I received the printed bill, I saw there was an additional 20% for a large party, so I double tipped. The waitress seemed new and was doing her best. I just told her to keep the extra.
For the value, Rabun Social is on the pricy side for what they offer. However, it is the only place offering these dishes and atmosphere within an hours drive. Might give it another try and test some of the other dishes I see...
