TLTR: Best tasting ice cream, real and quality ingredients but a little expensive. Worth the $
We camped in Clayton and came here as our last stop before heading home. We have traveled a lot of have visited our fair share of ice cream shops. There are a things that stand out about this spot: its all made in house with local ingredients. I noticed that even the mix-ins in the ice creams were quality. For example the apple pie bits in the crisp were delicious on their own and the cookie dough was spread into the ice cream instead of little dough balls (way better IMO). Honestly, I could taste the difference and it was worth the price considering the prices of chain ice cream shops now days. The other stand out thing that I think they should make their “signature” (like how Nordstrom doesn’t hand the bag over the counter, they walk it to the customer) is that they used metal spoons for tasting and the sample size was much bigger than other places.
They also sell a few baked goods and pupsicles. We tried the pumpkin snicker doodle and it was perfect - soft but not cakey. The pupsicle was also very well made. It didnt melt right away and held up when my dog was trying to eat it.
I met the owners and they were very friendly, had great customer service and shared a little about their shop. Had a great small town feel. It felt good supporting a small business owner chasing their dreams!
Its dog friendly and they have decorated the exterior with beautiful flowers. They clearly take pride in their aesthetic.
While I don’t have anything really bad to write I will share with you things that could influence your decision to go.
There isn’t a ton of sitting options but theres a couple picnic tables, a small table and counter chairs inside so it could be difficult to fit the whole family especially inside.
We paid about $25 after tip for 3 scoops in a cup. Then it was $4 for a cookie and $4 for a pupsicle.
We tried half the flavors and loved them all but settled on the coffee buttercrunch and vanilla/salted caramel.
Will come back here...

As an Ice Cream Expert that travels the country looking for good ice cream I can say the flavors were well thought of. Unfortunately, there were several flavors that were just empty tubs and about 5 or 6 that were no flavors in those spaces. So I was not able to really get a full experience of what they offer. The Vanilla Bean/Salted Caramel was very good. The waffle cone was good and had a great taste! The flavors were hand written and hard to read… A little pricey for the amount that you receive. Great job! Keep making smiles with...
Read moreI'm so happy to have Bean & Basil ice cream back! I've been there 6 times since they've been open and the ice cream is better than ever! You know you're at a good ice cream spot when someone is making a waffle cone and the kitchen is bustling making sweet treats I have yet to eat. But I will. It's hard to imagine last year I bought it out of a small freezer at Isadora Popper and now it's more than ice cream shop. That speaks to how good this ice cream is. It's an inspiration to see a local that has a dream and works really hard to make it a reality. Props to Jane and her incredible creations! Try the baked goods too, you won't be...
