Shady Creek Expeditions — Local services in Clayton

My son Michael and I recently went on our first-ever fly fishing adventure with Shady Creek Expeditions, and we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the sport!

From the moment we met him, Zac was warm, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to explain everything clearly and made us both feel completely comfortable, regardless of our skill level (which was zero!). His passion for fly fishing was contagious, and it made the experience not just educational but truly enjoyable.

The scenery was breathtaking, the equipment was top-notch, and Zac’s guidance made it feel like we were fishing with a friend rather than a hired guide. We learned so much, laughed a lot, and even managed to catch a few fish!

If you’re new to fly fishing or just looking for a genuine, personalized outdoor experience, I can’t recommend Shady Creek Expeditions—and especially Zac—highly enough. This was a memorable day we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Trey took myself and a friend out fishing, and it was an incredible experience. I can’t speak highly enough about Trey and the Shady Creek experience as a whole. All the staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and they have a great selection of clothing, fly gear, outdoor gear, and more in the shop. We did a half day trip and Trey was an incredible teacher. He was very patient with us with lessons, snags, tangled lines, and everything in between, as we aren’t seasoned fly fishermen. He imparted some of his wisdom and taught us more in half a day than we could have ever expected. We even caught fish in the double digits of all trout species local to the area. I will be sure to come back and bring anyone who’s willing to come fly fishing, new or experienced. Come check em out, for shopping and/ or fishing. I couldn’t recommend...

Last minute cancellation without any type of sincere explanation. Only “circumstances”. I get things come up but we were told the trip was confirmed less than 18 hours beforehand. No offer of a discounted trip, only a “let me know if you want to reschedule”. Why would I schedule again if this time didn’t work? Disappointing. Their little shop is nice but I wouldn’t book a trip with them. If you do take it with a grain of salt.

Update: I was sent a text asking me to please remove my review… seems a bit dishonest. I asked if anything I said was untruthful…...
