This place is waaaay overrated. My old fashioned had too much ice. Ridiculous. Normally a place like this would have one big ice cube. They didn't have a good enough selection of red wine by the glass for a steak house. I asked to have blackening season on my steak and they didn't have it??? They also don't offer any steak butters! I ordered the ribeye med rare and it was medium on the edges and med well in the middle. How does that even happen? Probably the mustard jus which was flavorful but hides the taste of the steak and salty. The scampi was good enough but normally you would get like 6 jumbo shrimp and they gave us the same large shrimp you can get from Schnucks and it actually tasted like regular shrimp from Schnucks. The sides were the best part and I didn't actually like the macaroni and cheese. I cannot believe I’m saying this but waaay too much cheese. The potatoes were good but Straub’s is just as good(check it out). The best thing on the table was the onion rings and the bread that accompanied the scampi. My steak and my partner’s steak were both overcooked. How does that happen? I realized as I didn't even bother to look at the dessert menu that I was annoyed and just wanted to get the hell out of there. I wouldn't even go back there if someone else was paying. Subpar and very disappointing. Good atmosphere and good service but with a $300 price tag for two people, I’d rather go somewhere else and know I’m not going to feel taken...
Read moreI don’t understand why this place doesn’t have 5 stars across the board. The place is perfect! Presentation, flavor, service, all is perfect! We had a variety of different plates tonight. I have never had a disappointment with anything here. However, when asked what my favorite tastes were, I have to say the scallops, which was a special, or the shrimp scampi, (an hors d’oeuvre) were at a tie. Both perfectly cooked and the scampi with the sauce and the bread is incredible! We also had Mac n cheese, onion rings and fries as a side. Normally I don’t get these items, as I never would at another restaurant, but here, you know it’s going to be great with our next few meals! The halibut and the vodka past were also both perfect! I really don’t know how else I can describe it. We ended it with a Tavern Sundae as well as espresso. The sundae was again, something I would never order, (I’m not a dessert person) but it was served with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry ice cream, homemade whip cream, hot fudge and a variety of toppings. Sounds basic, but with multiple people, it was the perfect way to end meal! Drinks, cocktails are great and creative (or classic) and the wine list is a perfect pairing to any meal you have. Service is always a plus for me and every time I have been, they always...
Read moreI absolutely must take the time to leave this review, simply because it is well deserved. You won’t be disappointed with the food, I personally favorited the crab cake! It was packed with crab meat unlike some places that typically have a lot of fillers. I ordered the darkened rum for drink choice and it did not disappoint! The cardamom in it really brought a very unique and well balanced flavor! Now, what really set this experience apart was the SERVICE. The restaurant and its staff pulled together a last minute reservation for me and a friend’s special day. They were quick and responsive when I reached out. When arrived, despite the holiday and extremely busy night for them, we never felt rushed or like we were an inconvenience. From the time we walked in, til the time we left, our doors were held, coats were taken, we were asked by not only our waiter but also, the owner, hostess, and other staff multiple times throughout the evening “how was everything”. The open kitchen concept along with the bar and the low light setting, creates the perfect intimate ambience!! They even took the time to celebrate and acknowledge my friend’s birthday with a special treat at the end. I will...
