We picked this Hotel for the pool & "Arcade Room", plus free breakfast. How could you beat that right? It was 236 for 1 room for 1 night for myself & 3 kids. The hotel was older and kind of cool. The staff at the check in...HORRIBLE. They were not friendly AT ALL. The beds were comfy and cozy & the celiing fan was awesome. It was hot in the room so our air worked great! A lot of stuff was broken; like the remote & just random things. The pool was pretty cool. It needs a deep clean but it was heated and you could even swim outside without feeling the 50 degree weather! The game room which is one of the main reasons we came; was awful. It was dirty and out of 10 games 2 worked. Breakfast came off very elegant and nice but the food was just ok. I would have rather had Mcdonalds! They did have a Waffle/Omlette guy workin his butt off alone; I am sure that part was good, but he was very busy. Oh! Did I forget to mention the Hostess asked me my namemultiple times after I spelled it multiple times. Then she had the nerve to say "Did you even stay here?" I just asked her if it was the norm for people to walk in and steal breakfast?! The staff was just awful, all except for the security/guy who brought me towels. He was a sweetheart. He also closed the pool at night and let the kids wim a half an hour longer. In the morning I had called thr fornt desk to ask if I could get a late checkout because our ride was having issues with her car. She said VERY RUDELY that nobody can have a late checkout. I still remsined sweet and polite with these people!!!! Did not get an attitude back at all. So I pack everything up and take the kids to swim for our goodbyes. We did pay 236 for one room?!?! YOu can't even check in until 4?!?! So we swim and a I notice that time is flying and its a couple minutes past 11. I go up to get our stuff and the door is locked and won't let us in becsue it is past 11. I kindly ask my ride that finally came to run up and ask the office to let us in to grab our things. The cleaning lady was not even on our level yet. I made sure to pick up all the trash, clean the sinks, & put all the towels in the bathroom before we went swimming, so everything was ready to grab and go. So they told my ride that I need to come down to the front desk. I go down and ask a gentleman to kindly let us go back into the room. He tries to create a card or however that work to let usback in..15 minutes goes by and he can't do it. Then he asks a very rude female that was rude at check in and check out; if she can do it. 15 or more minute goes by, she's huffin and puffin and she says she will just go up and let us in. We thank her and proceed to go upstairs with her & she tells me she is going to charge me $100 more dollars since I did not "get out at 11!" I explained that it was only a couple minutes after when we were trying to get our stuff and almost 45 minutes or more went by with them trying to let me back in. She told me I could have waited in the lobby. I asked are you really goig to charge me $100 more for a couple minutes??!! Especially since I wasn't holding up the cleaning lady. She calls the cleaning lady while I'm getting my things out to literally rush her to the 4th floor. Really? The whole time I was kind, pleasant & friendly. Even when they were crabby and rude I kept my composure & didn't let them change my character BUT COME ON!!!!! Soooo, the ceiling fan; the bed & the pool were great. I will NEVERRRRRRRR go back. Not worth the messed up attitudes just for no reason!! Sorry this was so long! Happy vacationing. We should have went to Holiday...
Read moreThis hotel must have once been a very classy hotel, but now seems run-down.
Our room was fine, but when we arrived there was no soap and no shampoo.
The hallways smelled a bit funny, but the room smelled fine.
The beds were nice.
There was an outside the shower-toilet bathroom area with a second sink, but the water from that sink didn’t flow properly.
We were delighted that the laundry room was open 24 hours, BUT…even though there was a sign that said quarters and detergent were available at the front desk, when we asked for quarters there weren’t any, so we didn’t get our laundry done as planned since it was about 8:30 pm when we asked for quarters and we didn’t want to go out of the garage that needs validation again to find quarters somewhere in a city that was strange to us.
The hot breakfast buffet that was included in our stay was really good though.
Parking was strange: you have to find where to park in kind of a deserted and creepy parking garage, but once you find it, you only need to walk across a short sky bridge to the hotel. But…you need to get your parking ticket validated and there is a charge to park at a discount for hotel guests of $6.00 per day.
The 24 hour gym was good.
Guests must request housekeeping and we did that and the housekeeping for our second night was great. This time we were left lots of soap and shampoo and conditioner, but not enough towels.
We never had a chance to use the pool, but we checked it out from the window and it looked okay, but it was way in the basement which seemed a bit unsafe at night and it was not open to use until 10 am, so we couldn’t do an early morning swim.
The staff were “so-so.” One woman was really helpful when we checked in, but the other acted like we were bothering her but she still checked us in, but gave us very little attention and was annoyed when we asked questions.
On our second day, we requested more towels, but the man who brought them, seemed very angry that he had to bring us towels.
When we went to the front desk the first night to get our parking pass validated, there was a little girl, about six years old, hanging out behind the front desk! She was probably the child of the woman who was working that night shift, but that sure looks unprofessional in my opinion. That employee also seemed annoyed that we were bothering her.
It is advertised online that rooms here are $119 a night, but we were charged about $143 including taxes and fees and also $6 a day for parking, so prices should be updated.
Would I stay at the Clayton Plaza Hotel again? Probably not unless some of the things I found...
Read moreMy sister and I visited here for 2 nights for specific celebrations. I was so excited to visit a 4-star hotel! It was our first time not doing the basic/cheap hotels. It was overall a fairly great experience. All of the employees from front desk-restaurant-maintenance were so kind. There was beautiful music in the lobby, and I loved that there were chairs throughout the hotel to just sit and relax.||We were very surprised by the breakfast. Breakfast is held in the hotel's restaurant and you are seated by the host before heading to the buffet. GET DRESSED before going to breakfast!!! We went down in our pj's (not expecting something so official) and felt SO out of place.||We wanted to live high and stay in a nice hotel for once. My #1 reason for choosing this hotel was the reviews of the FREE breakfast. The buffet has the widest selection of options: pancakes, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, grits, yogurt, fruit, pastries, cereal, eggs, sausage links & patties, and even more! It was amazing. On top of that, there is a made-to-order omelet station where you can also order waffles. The gentleman preparing the waffles and omelets is so so kind and just wonderful to listen to when he interacts with others. My sister and I didn't speak with him, personally, but we'd noticed he had become great acquaintances with other guests, and it was a delightful experience hearing his generosity and kindness. He was honestly the highlight of our stay there!||Along with the gentleman preparing omelets, the next greatest part of the hotel was the shower! The bathroom was newly remodeled and gorgeous. It's so much easier to shower in a new/nice shower than an old one.||My cons:|The pool was difficult to find. A lot of doors in the hallway of the pool were very beat up and just not pleasant to walk by. The indoor pool itself was clean, but the paint was chipped, and I overall didn't enjoy being in the pool area because it just wasn't homey. We didn't go to the outside pool.||I understand my expectations may have been too high, and there were signs in the hotel asking us to excuse the mess during renovations, so I'm assuming they're in their remodeling journey, and these things will be addressed in the future. I would absolutely visit this hotel again in the future just for the breakfast experience. However, the next time I decide to book a nice hotel, I'll probably opt for a really new one that looks and feels nice everywhere since I don't...
