When I first stumbled across the Philadelphia Sub Shop, my hopes were sky-high. I thought, “Could this really be the place where I find a proper Philly cheesesteak in Utah? Or am I about to get another sandwich with shredded roast beef and a slice of Swiss pretending to be authentic?”

Well, color me impressed because this place actually comes awfully close to the real deal. I’ve had the genuine article at Reading Terminal Market in Philly, and while nothing beats standing shoulder-to-shoulder with locals yelling “wit’ whiz” at the counter, this shop delivers a cheesesteak that made me stop, smile, and say, “Okay Utah, I see you.”

Now, there’s one minor issue: they don’t use actual Cheese Whiz. And if you’re a purist, you know that’s basically sacrilege in Philadelphia. But hey, I get it, maybe Utah isn’t ready for liquid gold cheese product straight from the can. Baby steps.

As for sides? Don’t expect fries, onion rings, or some fancy aioli. Nope. You get… chips. Bags of chips. A glorious rack of crunchy, crinkly potato companions. Honestly though, you don’t even need them. These cheesesteaks are the right size, the right heft, and they’ll fill you up faster than you can say “Rocky Balboa.”

The staff? Extremely courteous and helpful. When I ordered my first time, they didn’t even laugh at me when I nearly shouted “One wit’ whiz!” out of habit. Instead, they just smiled kindly, like, “Bless his heart, he thinks we’re in Philly.”

Bottom line: If you’re in Utah and craving a cheesesteak, this is as close as you’re going to get without hopping a plane east. Just don’t ask for Cheese Whiz, you’ll get a blank stare and probably a bag of...

I used to absolutely rave about this place, but we went there this last week n and 34$ on 3 subs. We went through our order meticulously n they still put onions on my mushroom steak and I specifically told them NO ONIONS, N UNFORTUNATLY they made a mistake and added onions. So I called the manager and s he was SO RUDE Ii couldn't beleive it, she refused to remake my sub even after admitting it was their fault and straight up told me I was s.o l. I am so disappointed n upset at the way she treated me that I won't EVER go there again! Not only that the quality and amount of meat they used has gone so down hill, it used to be the only place you find the best Philly cheesesteak ever! Not anymore I'm afraid. ...don't waste your money, try the Gabor brothers in Layton next door to Napa Auto parts if u want an excellent phillycheesesteak n they even serve homemade battered fries ....EXCELLENT! ! Better than potatoe chips n for the price. Forget the rude cheap Philadelphia sub shop. It's...

This was our first stop in the great Cheesesteak tour of Ogden (and the surrounding areas). The cheesesteak was fantastic overall. The meat was thinly sliced and well seasoned and the peppers and onions complimented the steak perfectly. Of all the locations, Philadelphia Sub Shop had the best bread. The wait times are up to 15 minutes some days, but only because the place is so popular and the line is long. The wait is well worth it however. They also include pickles on their phillies which is a unexpectedly delicious touch.

My only complaint is that they put both ketchup and mayo on the sandwich. It isn't bad, but they tend to put a lot of sauce on there and it gets a bit gloopy. It does keep the sandwich nice and moist however. They have some fantastic add ons as well such as bacon, hot peppers and mushrooms. If you live and work in the Clearfield area, Philadelphia Sub Shop is a...

If you are craving a Philly this is a local favorite. But don't be overly excited as it isn't anything memorable. Their location is in a new (ish) building. But walking into the restaurant it looks like it's decades old. They have not throughly cleaned their restaurant over the years. It was very cluttered and not fully clean. That can be overlooked by some. I had their classic Pepper Steak Philly. It was decent. The bread feel apart very quickly. The bread needs an upgrade. The pepper sauce was really tasty and I considered keeping my leftover sauce to use on my eggs another day. The sandwich had good flavor. This restaurant will have some that rave about it and others that will shrug their shoulders and be content but might not come back. I have not decided if I will be back as it just wasn't that great for the price.
