I arrived at Gabriel's Pizza at 5:01 PM and was seated as soon as I checked in (no, I didn't make a reservation). I ordered a 12-inch California Pizza, which took 17:55 minutes to arrive. The restaurant is clearly going for that old school pizzeria look with its dimly lit interior (which includes the bathroom as well, and no, it wasn't hard to see anything), staff all wearing black attire (with black tires to boot), neon signs inside the restaurant, brick walls, and black chalkboards with menu related advertising. Speaking of staff, my server Cooper was very pleasant, and I even got to meet the owner of the restaurant, Charlie (she was helping out in the restaurant). Charlie seemed like a very friendly person. I also briefly chatted with another staff member who was a fellow Rammstein fan (he shared a story about attending one of their concerts in France). As for the pizza itself, it was definitely tomato forward (that's more from the kind of pizza I ordered, which had a tomato sauce and diced tomatoes as a topping), but it was very good and not at all like the kind of greasy garbage pizza you get from fast food pizza places. If I did have any sort of criticism, its that I didn't know they served a cannoli dessert here. Said cannoli dessert, the Holy Cannoli, wasn't listed on their website or in their menu that I saw. I only learned about it from one of the chalkboards that's inside the restaurant, and I did confirm with Charlie that its offered year round and isn't just a seasonal thing. I would at advise to at least mention having it on your website. Overall, it made me nostalgic for those kinds of pizza places we used to have when I was a kid. A fun aside, at the entrance to the restaurant, there's a display cabinet filled with Gumby merchandise. The owner Charlie informed me that it was all from her personal collection, and that she apparently has the largest Gumby collection this side of the...
Read moreThey have great food like I know people from the Knoxville and Chattanooga areas who drive 30-100+ miles to come eat here when they can because the food is so good (and it is, I’m a straight shooter and don’t like fake reviewed stuff-rest assured you are reading the truth right now). If you like Supreme pizza go with the Magnificent 7 Supreme, or deep dish ArchAngel Gabriel. The Veggie, Hawaiian, and Mexican pizza are all great too. You can customize your pizza with endless options of tons of veggie, protein, and sauce options and get it from like a small 8 inch personal pizza to some crazy massive sized pies. The thin crust piatto (it’s probably a large personal sized or for 2 size small thin crust style) pizzas are excellent too. Their garden salad is big, delicious, and full of healthy fresh organic tasting produce like everything else here and the Italian dressing is excellent. They also have great buttery garlic breadsticks and used to have these amazing Gordon Ramsay level of culinary delights stuffed crab four Italian cheese mushroom appetizers (that I wish they’d bring back). If you like calzones they make a very good one as well. I also like that they have lots of cool original art and paintings along the walls and they usually play jazz, or new wave alt rock music on SiriusXM which are all great genres to relax with IMO. They have always had very clean booths, floors, tables, and bathrooms. This is a great restaurant and well worth your time. The staff is friendly and the kitchen masterful level of excellence in what arrives to your table. Thanks for reading and...
Read more03/30/2010 Well, today was a new day and maybe Allen has been paying attention to me. Service had been upgraded to what I would expect for my hard earned dollar and with the new "ALL YOU CAN EAT" for about $7.00 Gabriels has found a new place in my heart. My comments below are just water under the bridge. I hope this change in staff will last. THIS IS THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD!
I have been eating here since he open his first one in the Athens, TN. The one in Athens is closed by the way. The pizza, bar none is the best I have ever had! The pizza are big so you better go hungry and bring a friend or two.
The service on the other hand is the worst. You would think these servers had never been out to eat before. I mean from the get go, Allen must have been hiring from the same place. I say these because even the place in Athens had the same problem. It was the best when you could get your own drinks and pick your pizza up from the counter yourself. Now you have to pay for slow, don't give a crap about you service.
One more thing, if you are looking to be comfortable while dining in; forget it. The furniture is run down and every other table wobbles, or maybe I just get seated at the same table all the time.
I would really like to give this place at least 4 stars, but service is at least half of the reason I go out to eat.
Best way to eat here is call in and get it TO GO! IT IS THE BEST PIZZA I...
