I remember running out after catholic school racing to go here when they were on the corner of Lansing Ave. They would set out samples of smokies and would let me have some. Unfortunately I think I started that because I lived on Lansing and always went there so I knew. Other kids started following me to this wonderful family owed shop. They were so lovely and never complained and just set them out. Once in awhile I would buy one. I’m 47 now and it’s such a lovely memory for me. A highlight after school. Read moreI happen to pull this place up on the map. I don't live in the area. But when I saw it was from 1917 I believe I had to try it. I'm a sucker for good Smokies and smoke kielbasa. I haven't tried the kielbasa yet, but the Smokies were fantastic. You could tell it was the old world recipe that you can't find anymore. I used to have a local Pollock butcher who would make Smokey's out of my venison. That was the vibe. Service the ladies were all sweet. Don't expect a pretty place. It would have only taken 5min to pick up what I needed, and I would have still been out by 4! If they want to leave at 4 thats fine, then they should just say they close at 3:30.
