Today after having visited the Farmers on First--we wandered around the square to discover a local business which seemed to have time traveled here from the 13th century. In an absence of light and noise, Ruddle's Bread & Book offers it's patrons an enjoyably dark, quiet and peaceful environment where one could be comfortable for the rest of their time on earth. While sitting amongst the warm light, brick walls and 30' wall of books, a faint sound of orchestral music plays in the background--giving you the feeling that you are in fact amongst company from the year 1218. The paper used for their item names are representative of scroll paper and the text script fits right in with the aesthetic as well. The lady of the shop bakes fresh bread each and day while the gentleman takes care of the drinks and other chores. If you're one that's concerned about hospitality, fear not, for Kaylee and Janson are beyond friendly and accommodating. For not much more than the cost of the gamble on a Dunkin Donuts breakfast, you can eat a delicious and freshly made biscuit that's the size of a softball or go for something sweeter as you wait on your coffee or chai to be made. Lastly, if for some reason the inside vibe isn't your cup of tea, you can sit out back in the courtyard where several feeders are placed and sit amongst the birds as you enjoy your reading, drinking and eating. Having lived in Cleveland since 2017, I can confidently say that Ruddle's has what is arguably the best environment Cleveland has to offer if you are appreciative of the ways of the old world. Truly impeccable aesthetic and for that, I have edited the photos to emulate the essence of their shop. The only current-downside is you must enter their shop from the rear due to the construction happening on Inman Street. I would dare you not to let this limit your willingness to visit. It is well worth the trip. They are located at 241 Inman St E, Cleveland, TN 37311 but you must go in the back as if it weren't already...
Read moreThis place is a gem. The ambiance is amazing and I truly wish the space were larger. This is a quiet spot to eat, study, work, create art or whatever you need.
My second time being in there, I tried two coffees: the book nook and the legend of fall. Both coffees were excellently crafted. Today, my boyfriend and I tried the Sage parmesean biscuit and it was the best biscuit I have ever had. It was buttery, light, fluffy, and seasoned to perfection.
I’ve spoken to Jansen at least twice now and finally met Kaylee today. They are the most wonderful individuals with such a fantastic vision for the store.
I plan on bringing my old books in there (you get pastry and coffee credit by doing so) and they have this phenomenal Harry Potter event coming up where likeminded individuals get to come together and hang out in a place they are turning into the wizarding world. It is going to be authentic, immersive, and fun.
I can’t wait to see what more community building events they have at their shop. I also can’t wait to try their consistently rotating coffee and bakery menu because these folks are the real deal.
Thank you Ruddle’s for existing. We are happy you are here! That being said, just go. Go, hang, drink coffee,...
Read moreI come into Cleveland from Chattanooga every month or two after a doctor's appointment. I love checking out other town's bookstores so yesterday I decided to Google "bookstores near me" and Ruddle's popped up! It was a quick visit before I had to head back, but it was so worth the time! This little book nook is a dream. I ended up chatting with two workers, who turned out to be the owners, and they were sweet as can be. Everything in the shop has been hand-curated and you can tell this is something they've been dreaming of doing for a while. While talking with them, I had no clue that they had only been in business for a week! The place is so cozy and gives off the vibe of being well-worn and lived-in like your favorite pair of slippers. I didn't have time to try any of their drinks or food, but based on smells alone, I bet they're good. I shall definitely be back next time I'm in town for another...
