Oh man, I’m rather appalled by this place. My father-in-law picked up a large order of chips and salsa, and queso as a snack for us and a couple others. When we got home and took everything out there was two paper bags of chips, a decent sized salsa (not for the price though), and the tiniest container of queso I’ve ever seen before in my life. Not only was the container tiny...it was only HALF full!! And we couldn’t figure out how much they charged us for the few ounces of queso since the receipt isn’t itemized.

I called the restaurant, thinking it was some sort of mistake. I was put through to the manager who I guess got us our food. I asked her why we received such a small amount of queso when my father-in-law had ordered a large. She informed me that their large queso is 6 OUNCES (yet the large salsa is like 4-5X that size)!! First of all, we didn’t even receive 6oz, and second, if you are going to use a small container for your large order of one dipping sauce, and an actual large-ish container for another dipping sauce...you could at least fill it. That’s just cheap. When I explained to the “manager” that we were getting something to feed multiple people she said “well, I didn’t know how many people you were feeding”...umm, we ordered a large for a reason!! While she apologized a couple of times, she didn’t offer up anything to rectify it (like offering us a proper portion of queso). As a waitress myself, I am absolutely appalled by the lack of customer service, especially from a so called manager. Dos Hombres, you should probably rethink your portion sizes AND your management while you’re at it.

I guess it’s probably not a big deal for this business since my family and I are from out of town, but I have plenty of family and friends who are local, so I will certainly be sharing this with them. Also, my father-in-law and his family, who live here in town, will not be eating here again, and they will be passing this along to their friends and family. It’s too bad because the food really was decent, but definitely not worth $15! I’m still baffled that their large salsa is 18oz, but their large queso is (supposed to be) 6oz. CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP! Despicable.

If you want good queso and chips at a reasonable price, I suggest Qdoba. Their queso is just as good (if not better), and their lime salted chips are some of my absolute favorite! You get a decent portion (enough appetizer for at least 2 people- a good little meal for one, if that’s what you want) for $4/$5. I’ve also heard a local place, Tequila’s, chips and queso is good, and...

To preface, I’m a foodie person, and most often love leaving honest great reviews at local places we try during our travels(see my other reviews), however this one hits close to home as it happens to be here in my home town.

We had dinner at Dos Hombres this evening as we were craving the unique Dos Southwest Flavor upon seating and talking to our server, we quickly learned that they have changed ownership as every menu option we’ve grown to love and order, was not possible or had changed, sounds like the buyout happened several months ago, but they just recently started rolling out a whole new menu. I’m sad to report, it’s no longer the Dos Hombres we’ve loved for the last several decades. All the chili offerings are completely different, lots of favorite menu items are gone, and even the staple Dos Burrito and Navajo Taco (sounds like the staff had to fight to even keep it on the menu), looked and tasted completely different and not in a good way. The seating staff and servers were over the top good, as they were clearly compensating for the lack of food quality at this point. And even when talking with our wait staff they were clearly very bummed that everything had changed, and that the new owners clearly didnt listen to the input that the staff tried to give them about the grand valley local communities expectations of what Dos is to them. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for change and making things better, adding menu items etc, but to remove staples and change just about everything menu related, definitely isn’t it. At this point there’s nothing setting them apart from any of the other 10+ authentic Mexican food establishments around the grand valley that I prefer, over what Dos is now currently offering. If the new ownership reads this, feel free to let me know when you’ve fixed your menu with the flavors and foods Dos was known for, and I’d be happy to try it again and...

This was our first visit since the new owners introduced the new menu. I'll admit I was a little hesitant. Dos Hombres has been a mainstay in our community for decades, practically an icon! And we saw that the menu had changed quite a bit, especially with the addition of a lot of seafood. There are plenty of items from the previous menu, but we love the changes! My husband ordered the fish tacos and said the fish was delicious! I had a build your own combo with some standard fare (chicken enchilada, pork tamal, and beef taco). I started with the taco and immediately noticed 2 things ... The amount of beef in the taco (generous), and the FLAVOR! It was so good! Not salty or what we typically think of as "spicy". I could taste the different spices, which I'm thinking are more typical of the new owners Venezuelan roots. They were really good and not overpowering. I also liked that everything wasn't coated with a thick layer of cheese or swimming in sauce.

I wanted to try a dessert so took the tamal and some of the enchilada home, and was pleasantly surprised when I ate it for lunch the next day. Finding good tamales has been a challenge, usually because of the masa, which is often too thick or cake-like. The size of this one made me think I would be getting a very thick layer, but instead it was full of great tasting pork! And then there is the homemade flan. 😘 I commend the new owners (who have another restaurant in El Jebel near Glenwood Springs) for coming in, taking the time to get to know the existing menu and customer base, and keeping some of the local favorites while introducing their own dishes and flavors. Well done!...

So, my wife and I are here as I write this review... I'll start with the chips and salsa. The chips were definitely cooked in very old oil, they had a very bad after taste, the salsa was very watered down and had almost no flavor. I had to add salt and a little bit of sugar to get it to have any semblance of good flavor. After that. Our food... the refried beans... that's the name of what it should be. But that isn't what it was. It was just unflavored boiled pinto beans with melted cheese on top. The rice, eh, hard to mess up. My dos hombres burrito, had almost no actual flavor, just pure hot pepper on top. The chicken itself was dryer than death valley. I again had to add salt to the entire dish to stomach it. Her southwest egg rolls were about the same in terms of lacking any flavor. The sopapillas... they had pure oil taste, and were dark on the outside and raw and undercooked on the inside. I had my doubts about this being good food when I walked in, but I expected at least decent food. I would highly recommend, if you want Mexican food of any flavorful nature, don't come here. $50 for some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had... if I hadn't been hungry and already had ordered/started drinking my Margherita... I would have left and gotten taco bell.

We were frequent visitors of Dos Hombres weekly for the past few years, and loved the food. Visited today after the new owners re-did the menu and ordered the same dishes we used to get (chicken and steak fajitas and the chicken taquitos) and went from 5 start meals to 1-2 star meals. Chicken and Steak Fajitas- meat was extremely overly marinated and taste like chorizo, meats were gritty and vegetables barely cooked. The refried beans had cery little texture and were more like a creamed bean than actual beans, and the rice had berely any flavor at all, a little salt helped but not much. Quite different from what they used to be. Would not recommend. Chicken Taquitos- outer tortilla was soggy due to the amount of sauce they put inside, used to be crunchy, crispy, cheesy and be able to dip in our queso. Wasnt able to dip in anything as it flopped when picked up. However to mention the house Salsa is still the same and still delicious, as well as the queso was very good. The guac was also the same and delicious. If you liked the old Dos, your probobly gonna be disappointed as we are, on to find our next fav Mexican resteraunt. Not all things good last forever.

I have been coming to Dos Hombres for as long as I can remember. I had high hopes for the new menu but left very disappointed. I adored the affordability of the previous menu and was blown away by the new prices. My go to used be a bowl of the white chicken chili which came with a side of tortilla, fry bread, sopapilla, or side salad for $8.50. I was shocked to see that a bowl of soup is now $17.50 with no side just garnishes. I decided to try the pazole Verde anyway despite the high price, but was informed by my server that they were out. I opted to get a tostada with chicken instead and was surprised on how small it was. On the brightside, my server was wonderful, answered all of my questions, and listened to my feedback about the new menu.
