We hired Marigold for our engagement party last year, and everything was fantastic. Based on that positive experience, we confidently chose them for our wedding events. Unfortunately, that’s when things began to go downhill.
At the Haldi, the food was decent overall, but the chili chicken was noticeably dry. When I brought it up to one of the staff members, Nora, she dismissed it by saying, “It’s supposed to be dry,” which felt unhelpful and dismissive.
At the Mehndi, the food arrived cold, and most of the appetizers were dry as well. Marigold also seemed to be struggling with the chafers and the setup for hosting the food outdoors. Out of concern, we asked if they needed to move the food inside to keep it warm, but they assured us everything would be fine. It clearly wasn’t.
At the Sangeet, the same issues continued—cold food again, and some of the fried dishes were soggy and unappetizing. This pattern of poor quality and lack of care carried over to the Anand Karaj, where not only was the food cold, but the parathas were rock hard and very difficult to eat. When I raised the concern with Ajit, instead of addressing it professionally, he denied it entirely and insisted the food was warm. It was incredibly frustrating to be gaslit, especially when nearly everyone I spoke to at the events mentioned the same issue: the food was cold and lacking in quality.
One of the most upsetting moments was when my blind grandfather, who couldn’t attend the events, was denied a simple plate of food. My mom was trying to pack him a meal after the Anand Karaj, but a Marigold employee was rude and aggressive with her, refusing to give a full portion. Considering we spent over $18,000, that kind of treatment is beyond unacceptable.
At the Reception, the same issues continued—appetizers were once again cold and dry. The fish pakora was the worst I’ve ever tried in my life. Not only was it extremely fishy, but it was also so dry that I genuinely thought I might chip a tooth. I nearly choked on the paneer as well, because it was so tough and hard to swallow.
Even more frustrating was that, before the wedding events began, I had personally asked Nora to set aside plates for us at each function since we knew we might not have time to eat. She agreed. But come the Reception, Ajit denied the conversation ever happened and once again tried to gaslight the coordinator.
I’ve never worked with someone so unprofessional or unwilling to take accountability. Ajit consistently refused to accept any feedback, no matter how respectfully it was given. The food we were served did not reflect what we tasted during our engagement or tastings—and clearly, handling large events is not something this team can manage well.
Based on our experience, we will not be using Marigold Indian Cuisine again...
Read moreWow, so glad we tried Marigold. There are honestly not a lot of Indian restaurants in the east-side, so, a new entrant was welcome.
So far, this is by far our favorite. It is a small restaurant, and not a ton of seating. I suspect they do a good amount of carryout and delivery service vs sit down. But, we are sit down diners, by preference.
Service was very good, even the owner/Chef came out and chatted with us at the end of the meal. He is very knowledgeable of the menu and so was very helpful for food allergies.
Food: I am celiac, and was beyond happy that they offer Dosa, (a lentil and rice flour bread). Many Indian dishes are naturally gluten free, so it's been a personal favorite for me for years. Spice levels can be adjusted, hubby likes it HOOOT, I'm more of a medium kind of gal. They have a lunch special which is a great value and allows for a fantastic intro to Indian cuisine. The food was our new personal favorite, even surpassing our favorite Indian out in Troy. So, the fact our commute was cut substantially is just a huge bonus.
We definitely recommend. If you live Indian food, give them a try. If you've never had Indian, (WHY???)...
Read moreThe food throughout the celebrations was consistently disappointing. It was often cold, dry, and poorly prepared, making it difficult to enjoy. The food in the chafers was never turned over to keep it fresh, and the lids were left halfway open, causing it to get cold even faster. The setup felt careless and unprofessional.
The staff made little effort to maintain the food stations. Employees mostly stood around, appeared lazy, and showed no urgency or attentiveness. On several occasions, they were visibly rude to guests and unwilling to take any feedback, which added to the frustration.
To make matters worse, the caterer refused to let anyone take home leftovers, even though there was a large amount of untouched food remaining.
This was, without a doubt, the worst Indian wedding food I’ve ever tasted. What should have been a joyful and memorable experience was completely overshadowed by poor quality, lack of care, and...
