Very Mediocre - Cannot recommend!!! We always enjoy passing through a new town & discovering a great little restaurant that serves really good food at a reasonable price. A place that seems like it’s been there forever serving up homestyle cooking to a generation of families just like your Grandma did. My wife & I stopped here on the way to Kings Mountain and thought we’d pick up some food on the way. After seeing several positive reviews of this place we felt we found a gem. I love to write good reviews, letting others know of a great place we’ve found. Sadly, this was not the case. After finishing our lunches, we both agreed that the food was at best, mediocre. Here is what we ordered: Me: Chicken Casserole: When I opened the to-go box, I thought I was given Banana Pudding by mistake. After moving my fork through it, I realized it was the correct order. The recipe seems to be - open a can of Cream of Chicken soup, add some shredded chicken & sprinkle some buttered cracker crumbs on top. This was a regrettable order. I would recommend you skip it. It was a terrible disappointment. Side 1: Corn Salad – sort of a variation of 3 bean salad, but with canned corn, vinegar & sugar, pimentos & onion. Not really bad though, just not great. Side 2: Deviled eggs. There is a common problem I see with deviled eggs in restaurants. Some places serve up pretty darned flavorful eggs like my Mom & Aunts used to make, but many are bland. Unfortunately, after trying them, my wife & I agreed that they were really, really bland. My wife: Fried chicken breast: Boneless, skinless chicken breast dipped & fried. Pretty average, nothing really special. Side 1: Green beans – Appeared to be canned green beans. Problem is that they were so heavily salted, it was hard to eat them. We’re not salt-free people by any means, but Boy, a lot of salt here! Side 2: Potato Salad: Has the same problem as Deviled Eggs. Many restaurants serve a good potato salad, but so many serve up a bland potato salad. This was a very bland potato salad. The food came out when the waitress said it would. All the staff I encountered were friendly. This place seems very popular with the locals. Unfortunately, I cannot jump on the bandwagon of positive reviews. The food served here is not like your Grandma’s home cooking. Its pretty pre-fab & very mediocre. My wife summed it up perfectly when she said we’d probably have come out just as well by going to a local fast-food joint. Sorry, but judging from the items we ate, I cannot recommend...
Read moreWe fell in love with this place when we tried it for the first time last Sunday. Took my mom and daughter there tonight and when I returned home realized I couldn’t find my phone. Called up and the girl seemed really sweet and said she was looking but couldn’t find it. I pinged my phone and it still showed that it was in the restaurant. Called back around 8:30 and even though they were closed the girl answered the phone and said she would look again... still no luck even though the ping this time still showed phone in same place. Drove from York here about 5 minutes after hanging up the 2nd time hoping maybe I had dropped it in the parking lot. Got there and no phone. Pinged it again and it went from restaurant to Taco Bell to near Ford dealership and all around town. After threatening via text that I was going to police it appears one of the girls got spooked and threw it in some woods somewhere. Just got done filing police report after officers went out looking for it. The phone isn’t that important but the pictures of my 2 year old daughter and first time home can never be replaced. You should be ashamed of yourself and we will never be back to Clover Station unfortunately. Even though the owner/cook is the nicest lady ever. May want to screen your servers better. Sad.
Update: The owner called my husband this morning and was extremely apologetic. I understand it's not her fault I'm just very disappointed in the decision making of whomever decided to take my phone and not return it. We will not hold her or the restaurant at fault and appreciate the reaching out. True southern kindness at...
Read moreSo my parents like this place, idk why but they do. We went here today for lunch and to be honest I don’t know if anyone of you that gave this place 5 stars knows what good food is. I can cook better than this place and it’s a shame because they would have lines out the door if the food was better!
My mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box and the gravy was cold, the deviled eggs looked like a 3rd grader made them which wasn’t appealing in the least. Nothing looked freshly made and our waitress didn’t appear to be in a good mood. Surprisingly the fried chicken breast was good and I checked multiple times to make sure it was cooked all the way! I hated paying $29 for this food!
The biscuits tasted stale and that bowl of okra that they walk around with! Disgusting, to see how many people are walking around with that okra bowl and how exposed that is to others. So unsanitary to say the least. What is the food rating of this place or does SC not do that??? This place has the potential but they definitely need help in the kitchen. Go buy some fresh green beans, fresh potatoes, and other fresh vegetables and make some real delicious food!
Need some help to show you how?? Message me directly and...
