El Nopal Cold Spring — Restaurant in Cold Spring

We came for lunch. It wasnt busy at all. At first, everything was fine, we were aat quickly qnd got our chips and drinks fast. Our food came pretty quickly, but we didnt see our server again. The food tasted bland, both the chicken and steak. Almost like they boiled it yesterday and microwaved it when we ordered. It was chewy and unappetizing. We waited for almsot 30 minutes after deciding we were done before getting up to find our server to pay. My husband walked the whole front of house and there was no one. He stuck his head in the kitchen and found the whole staff just hanging out. We told them the food was bad. No apology for that or having to search for our server. For a $65 meal, I expected better food and more attentive staff. They didnt seem to care about the service or food they were providing. For a similar meal at other mexican restaurants in the area, we pay LESS for dinner than we paid for lunch here! We will never be back. That experience was embarassing for the...

Edit - After 3-4 more visits, I've discovered that only the fried taco shells have the air freshener taste. Now I just order fajitas without tortillas and they taste fine.

Previously - I ordered a fajita taco salad for carryout. The order was easy to place and ready when I arrived. Pros: it was a lot of food and would have made two meals, a large bag of chips was included and the side of queso was ver good. Cons: the fried taco shell tasted as though it had been sprayed with a potpourri air freshener...it was inedible and all of the chicken, onions and peppers that came in contact with it were inedible. This left half of the food inedible. What was there was very bland. The chicken looked seasoned but really had very little taste. Plenty of parking. Seated right away. Ordered chips and salsa, average (they do give you a mild and hot salsa). Had the #5 lunch special - burrito, taco and rice which was average. Had a steak burrito with queso on top which was good. Ordered queso for the chips which was very good and a very large portion (should have been for $7.00). Last we ordered some churros and ice cream to go. Got home and decided to try the churros and it looked like a tornado had wiped them out. They were all over the box with what appeared to be whipped cream and no ice cream 😔. Guarded these with my life all the way home to make sure they were in good shape.
