Well this ruins a great spot for me. Tonight I was feeling froggy and ordered last minute cause it’s usually pretty on point. The lady who took my order wasn’t very friendly and only thing that was over the top communicated was that “we close at ten hurry up”. Mind you I ordered at 9:13pm and it’s a 10-13 mins drive there. Once I get there the lady who took my order still wasn’t friendly and as I was leaving made what sounded to be some type of joke in her native tongue to which the employees looking from the back of house to the front of house start laughing frantically. Once I get home go to open what was hoping was kung pao beef to my surprise chicken was the protein (meow meow is more what the texture you’d think of). Not only was the service rude, to mess the order up and that could be what was so funny. They purposefully swapped meats and knew what they did. This should be taken into mind when dining here.
Edit: your hours stated you’re open til 10. How do you figure you all stayed an additional 30 mins? Your attempt of rectifying the situation is sub par at this point my next time attempting your restaurant should be on you since you all didn’t make it right and blatantly calling your...
Read moreThe new owners are doing a fantastic job bringing good Chinese/Thai fast-food to an area sorely lacking in this. I ate at China Chef under the previous owners, and the food was, frankly, terrible. Today we ordered your good 'ol standard General Tso. It was absolutely delicious and I was happily amused the level of care they put into the dish. The chicken was tasty and not overcooked. The sauce was thick and sweet. The zucchini they threw in soaked up the flavour. I have eaten many traditional Chinese dishes, winter melon soup being my favourite. However, I have zero problem enjoying American-Chinese fast food if it is made well. I usually order General Tso when I first try a Chinese fast food establishment because it is an American favourite. The dish also varies widly resturant to restaurant, and how well a General Tso dish is prepared tells a lot about the restaurant. Next time we go in, I am going to try something crossing into less fast food and more real food. I would absolutely recommend giving China Chef a try. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is very pleasant, especially the open kitchen and the food is...
Read moreI hate to give a bad review but would like to spare someone their hard earned money. We tried China Chef for dinner last night and regret that we did. We ordered the Hunan and szechuan beef, combination fried rice, egg rolls and crab rangoon.
Eggrolls - decent and would eat again.
Crab rangoon - mediocre, the shells were good, but the cream cheese mixture was meh and we didn’t even eat them all and would not order again.
Fried rice - also mediocre. It wasn’t terrible but nothing to rave about. Might eat again.
Hunan and Szechuan beef - meat was tough. The sauces were thin and watery and didn’t have much flavor and not much difference in taste between the 2. Would never order again and both went into the trash.
The worst part is it cost $46. We typically eat at Dragon City No. 4 and our similar order is around $30 and comes with a free order of their delicious crab Rangoon (just avoid their fried rice, it’s terrible).
We used to go to China Chef in the 90’s and it was...
