Finally, a top notch restaurant comes to Colleyville! I have tried to schedule a dinner at Stone House since it has opened and was always booked. But last night, having company from out of town, I dared to just walk in and ask for mercy (sic!). It turns out one of the owners was up front and wanted to help us so he found a table in the already packed venue. By the window. Which had an amazing view of the newly built patio! So of course, we asked about the possibility to dine by the fire, and luckily one table was just clearing so we were again accommodated with a smile. We sat down and enjoyed some drink while the food was prepared. The atmosphere was relaxing and begging to enjoy the well spaced area, and the weather. There were fireplaces around, trees were wrapped in lights reminding us of the upcoming holidays and excellent music (for my age at least was playing). All around, relaxed beautiful people enjoying the nice evening and dreaming of better times when this was the norm and the Covid was inexistent. Now, about the food: We like to share so we each ordered one item and we all tried it. We ordered: Hand Cut Ribeye au jous medium which turned out to be perfect! Well charred on the outside, juicy and marbled on the inside and a really generous portion too! Lamb Sirloin with snap pea succotash, rosemary lemon reduction. Now this was a pleasant surprise. The lamb was melting in my mouth and was pink throughout just the way I like it. The greens around were a nice touch to balance the meal. Gulf Shrimp & Grits with crawfish, hatch chili corn, crisp bacon. My wife is usually not very adventurous when it comes to food but this was a chance to sample the southern comfort food so she went for it. She loved it and shared with everyone else. The shrimp was perfecting grilled and not rubbery like some serve and the grits while not as buttery as some I have tasted in Atlanta, was delicious when paired up with the sauce. Chili-Rubbed Akaushi Flat Iron with charred shishito peppers, chili-rubbed lime butter. Now this was amazing because I do not usually associate shishito peppers with a steak, but the lightly charred peppers are such a welcome addition to the steak and it perfectly counters the mild fat in the steak to give it just the tinniest amount of heat. Meat melted in my mouth and the chilly addition was exploding with flavor and beckoning not to delay until the next byte.
We paired the above with some shareable: Burnt Sweet Potato (a lightly charred sweet potato with a hint of caramel but otherwise natur), HGH Cheddar Grits (a favorite of the table to pair with the steaks) and Parmesan Creamed Spinach (braised spinach with parmeggiano, so creamy that we managed to clean it up in no time).
From the food, which came in fast and had both and amazing presentation as well as a heavenly taste, to the ambiance enhanced by the fire nearby, the lit trees and the mellow music playing in the playground, all these created an memorable atmosphere for my friends and I. We stayed until closing... I do not remember when I lingered so much in a restaurant... and we swore we will be back soon.
Stone House is not just a new restaurant, is an extension of the beautiful Colleyville city and a reminder that life keeps going on and thrives even in...
Read moreWent to Stone House to celebrate my son’s birthday. What an absolute treat this restaurant is. With everything from a two-year-old to a 68-year-old, the food was wonderful and the service was as well. Starting with the ambiance … the building is an actual stone house complete with a front stoop and a back patio with seating for people waiting or just getting a drink. Our server immediately jumped on getting drinks and getting food ordered for my two-year-old grandson. I don’t remember it there is a kid’s menu, but there was still plenty to select from. His main course was the truffle mac and cheese, and it was creamy and flavorful. We had a couple adult drinks for the adults including a well prepared Apperol Spritz and an excellent Pouilly-Fume which is a wine that you don’t find in that many restaurants. For starters we split two orders of the crab cakes and the octopus. The crab cakes were perfectly prepared and crab-centric, rather than bread-centric. The grandson liked those as well. I thought the octopus serving was a little slight for the price, but it was well prepared. So that is my only complaint about the entire evening. For mains we had Seared Salmon, Redfish, Shrimp & Grits, and an order for the appetizer meatballs. All were good size, especially the meatballs. Every dish was cooked, in our entire group’s humble opinion, to perfection. And all would order again. Mine was the redfish and it was as well prepared as any I have ever had with the bed of crawfish gumbo and basmati rice. For my daughter in law’s seared salmon, she requested the champagne buerre blanc sauce instead of the menu’s blackberry jalapeño glaze and they accommodated with a smile. Her asparagus under the fish was very generous and also prepared well. The one side we had, other than the sides that came with entrees, was the parmesan creamed spinach, and it was decadently rich. Can not even imagine the calories in that, but when something tastes that good it is worth it. Plus, we can all say we had a helping of good for you spinach. We did not have desert. With six drinks over the evening total (not each), plus the prices for the starters and entrees, this was quite an expensive meal. But as a special occasion, and given the quality at every level, it...
Read moreI called to check on availability. The gentlemen answering the phone was great. Hopes were high on our way to the restaurant. It is a place I have had on my list for a while as I h e driven by it many times and it looks nice. We get there and are seated immediately. It is now almost 6 on a weekday and mostly empty. Hmmmm that is never a good sign. The restaurant presents itself well. Service is immediate after we are seated and kind. We order an appetizer which is good, not great but good enough. The atmosphere isn’t the best. They are playing honky tonk kinda music on very very bad speakers that are too loud. Bad sign. The ceiling is in bad bad shape and very poorly executed. The waiter is good and gives us a good presentation. I order a “feature” steak filet and my lady orders the salmon. The steak is presented nicely on a bed of mashed potatoes. ( small portions, but not a problem at all for quality food it is my preference) Then….THEN! I cut into the steak….Cooked medium rare…..as ordered….and it is TOUGH and stringy! It is frozen meat or very low grade. (Both I imagine) then I taste the potatoes. The sauce has completely overpowered the flavor of everything. Not to mention they didn’t bother to warm the plate so in the 3 minutes it has been there it is already a little cold. The service immediately went down soon as the waiter realized we were not drinking. No follow up after the food was delivered until we were nearly finished and when he asked how it was I told him disappointing. He asked if there was anything he could do I simply sated it wasn’t his deal. No manager came. No more questions asked. My date’s salmon was same story. Whomever is running this is doing so with no pride in their business in my opinion. I can get better food and a similar environment at Outback Steakhouse for half the price. Competing at the price they are more is demanded. At this price point it is one of the worst I have been to. Go to Perry’s, Bobs, or Trulucks instead. UPDATE We both got food poisoning from the salmon dish. (I only ate a little to critique and finish what my lady didn’t want) Her’s is quiet severe....
