Normally a decent place with friendly people, but something was definitely off today. Since it has been about a year since I was there I thought I would write about today's downsides and let people reading decide if they think it was a random event or part of a new pattern. There were four in our group (counting myself). First it took a while between getting drinks and when the waitress came to take our orders. Then it took a long while to get the orders (nothing complicated). When I got my burger it was cool and so was that of the friend sitting next to me. I had requested ketchup with mine but didn't get it. Since my waitress was absorbed in taking another table's order and did not want to look my way I walked to the counter and got a different waitress ringing up a bill to get it for me. As an aside their ketchup comes in these prefilled small containers -- enough for my purposes. When my waitress noticed this and asked what was wrong (after I had solved the problem), I gave her an out by saying maybe she forgot because she was busy. Her reply was that she put it on the ticket and brought that back to us. Everywhere else I go, part of the job of the waitstaff is to make sure that the order is correct. Apparently not in her view. Considering how long everything was taking, neither my friend nor I said anything about the cold burgers. I was tired after working overnight and going on a hike, sleepy, hungry, and just wanted to eat and get home. I will read the reviews of others and if this seems like a pattern I would not go back there. I left the waitress a regular 20% tip because my salary is definitely better than hers, nor because she deserved it.
Updating my review after today's visit. I have given up on this place. I stopped in because I was in the area and was hungry. I asked for a plain bacon cheeseburger and after waiting a while the lady brought back a cheeseburger without the bacon. She said she misunderstood me when verifying my order, and offered to get me some but I was hungry and it had taken a while to get my order so I said to forget it as long as I was charged correctly. I was not charged correctly. She was probably covering for the cook who forgot the bacon, and her own inattentiveness to verifying my order, because my bill was for the bacon cheeseburger. It took a while to get her attention again and when I asked her to get me a correct bill she just got an attitude, gave me a $1 bill. I took it, paid the bill without added tip because I was frustrated, and left. A regular cheeseburger would be $6.30. I was charged $7.60. The 30 cents wasn't worth the frustration. If she had treated me with some more respect and acknowledged her error, I would have left her a real tip.
With what seems to be consistently slowish service (despite not being busy), and orders not coming out right, and the deception, I will not be visiting this Dyer's again. I am not typically a picky person, but I believe in the rule that once is a coincidence and twice is a pattern. I would be a fool to risk this type of service...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Dyer's for the second time yesterday. We enjoyed the service and food so much the first time we made plans to make it a date and try everything on the menu that sounded good to us. Only this time the service was like being in the 1960's. We felt rushed and unwanted from beginning to end. When we got there we were told to sit where ever we liked. We sat at the bar because that's where we sat the first time. A waitress but not our waiter asked as if it was a problem "you're sit at the bar?" I answered yes. Our waitress walked up to us gave up menus, asked if we wanted something to drink, walked to the other side of the bar and immediately asked if we were ready to order as my husband and I sat there looking over the menu, talking 2 minutes from walking in. We spoke to the cook that cooked our food before telling him that we were getting the same think as before, but we didnt know for sure, (our plans were to put him to work that night.) I told the young lady I was ready to order because clearly we were being rushed, and began to give her our order. Every question I asked her the other waitress asked. For example "Are there beans in the chili" "yes, we dont have chili without beans, our chili have beans!" Again not our waitress. I asked the cook the cook told her "I know how they like it." The waitress stopped what she was doing to watch the cook prepare our food. Our waitress gave us the check soon as I was done ordering what we ordered before but we wasn't done ordering truthfully. We ate, we got the rest of our food to go tipping the cook for the great food and customer service. The waitresses stared at us for doing so I guess so my husband said "your tip is on the credit card," she said "I know," not thank you, not I appreciate it, no kind of appreciation, not even a have a good night as we left. We were not wanted there at all! It's almost 2020, racism shouldnt be a thing, but it is. Plus your prices are to high for bad customer service, a paying customer is a paying customer regardless! We'll be back but no time soon because we enjoy the food, and I just hope for different people to be on the floor with the same cook when we do decide to make that trip again... âââââ for the food, â...
Read moreI've lived in Memphis for almost 30 years and had never given Dyers a shot. I was in Collierville with my son and craving a burger so we decided to stop in. It went downhill from there. We walked in at 8:15 and sat down the server was friendly but seemed very rushed and scatterbrained. We ordered our drinks and an order of cheese fries. The server leaves and comes back with out drinks. She then proceeds to tell us they only have one burger left and they will have to prepare more which will be a 15 minute wait if we both wanted burgers. We asked her what burger she recommended and she tells us to not order a burger because there is only one patty and it won't be enough to satisfy us and if we wanted burgers it would be a 20 minute wait and a lot of work for the cook. I told her we didn't mind waiting and tried to order a burger. At that point she reiterated that it would be a 20 minute wait and did we really want to wait. I told her I came in because I specifically wanted a Dyer's burger. She then said again it was going to be 20 minutes and a lot of work for the cook. At that point I told her that obviously they didn't want our business and said we would go elsewhere. I got up to leave and she proceeds to tell me that it's against the law for us to leave without paying. I told her I was trying to spend my money there and obviously they didn't want it. As we were walking out she proceeds to tell my son that she is calling the police on us because I refused to pay for the appetizer. What a joke, we walked to Lost Pizza company and got amazing food and service. Don't waste...
