Corner Cafe — Restaurant in Collinsville

Went here while very pregnant and very hungry. Was very disappointed in the food. The person cooking the food is definitely not a cook. Not sure if they even know how to work the stovetop because they made a fairly easy order very poorly Ordered pancakes, bacon and eggs(over medium). Bacon was barely cooked and rubbery; perhaps microwaved at some point. Eggs were cooked fully rather than how I ordered. And the worst was the pancakes! One side was nearly burnt but that side was faced down of course! The other side looked fine but once you cut into them…it was runny…yeah so don’t know if the person never made pancakes before or just never heard of them or seen them but barely cooked on one side, burnt on the other and raw in the middle isn’t how they are suppose to be. My poor pregnant self (at the time) was so disappointed. I mentioned that maybe the stove was too hot(when I was a new cook years ago I made the mistake of having the stove too hot and having nearly the same results: well done outside and raw inside). The manager/owner(?) brought me new pancakes but apparently didn’t check them or just didn’t care because they were near duplicates of the others. Then the manager apologized and took $2 off our meal…that didn’t even cover the pancakes…not to mention I didn’t eat anything but a bite of bacon and was disappointed in it so didn’t finish it, then I cut into my eggs and realized they were over cooked and didn’t bother with them. But I was pregnant and starving for decent food so I paid for my not edible breakfast. Most places I will give another chance but this made me feel like they know they did wrong and just didn’t care…also when you do a pregnant woman wrong you will eternally be on her...

Normally the food here is ok, not the greatest but far from the worst. Today it was the WORST. Me and the wife ordered the sampler which includes 3 eggs of your choice topped with cheese 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage patties, hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy. We we both ordered scrambled eggs with the cheese, grits instead of the hashbrowns and wheat toast instead of the biscuits and gravy. Our order was out fast and I was grateful because I was hungry this morning. They forgot the cheese, easy fix they brought out a small bowl of cheese. The grits was lumpy and dry. I fixed that with butter no problem. But when I mixed the cheese into my scrambled eggs I found the they were severely undercooked. I asked for eggs cooked better she apologized and took the eggs. I ate my bacon the toast and the grits. I waited 10 kins for my eggs which she kept saying were coming. I decided to wait no longer and got up to leave to pay my bill. Still no eggs. Oh and by the way my wife suffered the same issues she just decided not to...

First time eating here and I ordered endless catfish. Mother ordered roast beef sandwich with au jus. The tator tots and fries were good, hot, crispy. The green beans? Not my favorite. They were cooked with something, but not bacon fat. This mystery flavor was not desirable for me.

The fish? Cornmeal breaded. Hot and crispy. However, the fish itself was too slimy and mushy for me. I don't know if they cooked it just long enough to be done or what. But I prefer my fish not to be swimming in my mouth still. The au jus? It's like they took grease from the beef and put it over some brown gravy and called it good. So it ended up just tasting....greasy. The hostess and waitress were fun and down to earth. If I go here again I think I'll just try...
