We stopped for lunch passing through from St Louis to Central Ill. It's less than 10 minutes from the interstate. (I-55/I-70) The lunch crowd was thin, there were four occupied tables in the dinning room including ours. The takeout traffic was steady. The lunch guests were self seating. The ambiance was very comforting, plenty of ambient light and a nice open spaced dinning room with tables - no booths. There is a well stocked (but small) bar in the dinning room. The dinning room is suitable for a family dinning environment. The temperature was a little cold for me.
Covid safety practices were in place. The food was awesome! I had the gyro sandwich w/fries. My wife had some kind of stuffed fish, flounder maybe? I had a bite of hers and it was great. My gyro sandwich was very good, plenty of meat, and the onions tasted fresh and crunchy. My fries were really good too. My wifes meal also came with a salad. It looked really good, and fresh.
The service was a little slow. I ordered coffee with my meal and my wife had tea. Her tea never got a refill, my coffee had one refill. But the waitress never returned after the first refill.
After we finished our meal we waited for some time for our check. (The waitress never returned to our table to check on us after the first coffee refill.) As I mentioned earlier, I was cold. I finally had to summon the waitress to our table with a loud across the room call to the waitress - "Excuse me mam, could we get our check please?" She nodded yes in confirmation, but it was another 10 minutes before she made it back with the check. That's where we downgraded a star to 4 stars. Overall - the food is great with ample portions. The dinning ambiance is a pleasant family atmosphere. The restroom was clean, but dimly lit. The service was slow and the room temp was a little to cold for me. I will dine there again when passing through, but I'll be better prepared on my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is a true gem. It was hard to pick what I wanted from the menu because there were so many dishes that sounded so good. I decided to try the Gyro Plate and I'm glad I did. It was simply amazing! The plate was about twice as much food than I could eat, so don't worry about portions. I regret that I ate so much that there was no room for one of the delicious sounding desserts on the menu.
The service was just as great as the food. Our server knew the menu inside and out and was able to help my party make decisions based on our tastes. She was patient and extremely helpful. I could tell she was confident and proud of the food being served.
Parking was easy and we were able to get my handicapped brother inside with ease. Moving around inside with a wheelchair wasn't quite as easy, but it wasn't difficult, just right with an oversized wheelchair.
My only (very slight) negative was that the restroom was a bit small for handicap access. My brother requires help, and is a larger guy, and it was a bit of challenge to do so. It would probably be much easier if he did not require help and would probably have plenty of room. So, this was not really even a complaint.
Overall, Fazzi's is on my list of favs. I am very glad it was recommended to us while in town. I just wish it wasn't a 4 hour drive for me to visit, otherwise I would visit OFTEN!
DEFINITELY worth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreĀ Ā Ā Read moreOkay the food...way too delicious. Best tasting greek ive had. I had the dolmades, spanikopita, moussaka and greek salad. All in included in the greek sampler platter..WAY TOO GOOD. my only food complaint is the moussaka was dry up top and Also the olive oil ón the brĆ©ad was not the best kind or quality. However my first bite into the dolmades covered in avgolemono was intense and delicious. The real winner was the spanikopita. So freaking good and the tzatziki mixed with it was delicious. They put so much garlic in. I still taste it. š but back to that spanikopita WOW. It's like they coated every layer of phyllo with butter. So freaking delicious!!! Sorry for drinking the water so fast...I needed a lot ^
