Hunan Diner — Restaurant in Colonial Beach

Two stars because the Egg Drop Soup was good. This place has sure gone down hill from what it used to be, and it started prior to the pandemic. The last few times (several) when calling in for take out the orders have been wrong. We had started going elsewhere, but decided Hunan Diner was closer so order take out there tonight, and of course the order is wrong. When placing the order the lady on the phone seemed to be rude, but I out that off as they were busy, and upon arrival there was no change in her attitude. When placing the order she repeated everything back, so I assumed everything would be as I ordered, however when getting home we had Shrimp Fried Rice (which was burnt on top of the mix up) instead of Rice Noodles with Shrimp. When I called back she was even more rude on the phone, basically blaming me for screwing up the order, and not them. Looks like we start making the drive to Dahlgren again for Chinese, JIn Express has never screwed our order up this bad, in fact I don't ever remember them messing...

Food is second only to the service! If you're in a hurry go to Mickey D's. If you want great service and delicious food go to the diner.

The breaded chicken used is so good. Dumplings are totally worth the wait. Made-to-order and delicious. Fried chicken wing appetizer is mouth-wateringly good.

Enjoyed very much the banter between the locals and the staff. Found myself accidentally eavesdropping and laughing out loud. Laid-back Beach vibe. Loved the classic atmosphere of an old-school diner with delicious Chinese dishes. Sit at the bar and have a cocktail and relax. You'll be glad you did.

The first time I went in there people were ordering sushi rolls. A couple visiting from California loved them. I need to figure out what night that goes down and make sure my next visit includes...

Hunan Diner was super delicious and the Hunan Beef was cooked to perfection!! The Hunan beef was just enough spiciness and great portions for the affordable price. My wife enjoyed her dish too. The host is such a hard worker and is kind, gracious and such a great conversationalist and really seems to be stitched into the very fabric of that community. And this was awesome to observe and is always a good sign of a good eatery if the owner is well known by the locals. The atmosphere in the restaurant is so pretty and the outdoor seating has sufficient umbrellas for the heat so enjoy the outdoor...
