Let me preface this by saying I've been here multiple times and it's usually a great place for delicious Thai food. The food is not the issue. After tonight's visit unfortunately they lost my family as customers for what I perceive to be a very poor business decision.
Long Story is my wife, 2 year old son, and I went on a Wednesday night at 6:30pm to grab dinner instead of cooking since some errands ran late. Aroi was close and we've enjoyed eating here before so we happily went for an "easy" dinner. Sat down ordered our food. Drunken noodles for me and Red Curry for the wife. (Same thing we always order). Initial wait was longer than usual but no big deal. We were first of a few families to be seated. The waitress brought our food out but my wife received Pad Thai instead of the Red Curry. She ordered Red Curry, and doesn't even like Pad Thai. The Server clearly screwed up and admitted that yes she put the wrong order in. OK cool, no big deal again. I began eating my food while it was hot thinking they'd rush her order out. Nope, I ate alone while my wife watched. They served both other families their food, mind you these tables were seated after we had initially ordered. It took another 20 minutes for my wife's correct meal to get to the table. Now, anyone with toddlers knows that as soon as you are seated, you are on a time limit. I try to be respectful to other guests so my wife and I typically try to sit, order and eat quickly to not bother other paying customers with an admittedly wild toddler. Had both our meals came out correct everything would have been OK. But by the time my wife's food came we were ready to leave because I was finished and our toddler was ancy. She was able to get 2 bites in before we asked for boxes. My wife then told the server she did not expect to pay full price for her meal. The Servers logic was the food was delivered and since we were gonna take it home we pay for the meal. We quickly handed her the full plate of red curry back and had her remove it from the ticket. So I go out and pay for a service and food, I eat alone while my wife waits or just wait until mines cold? You ruined our dinner experience and expected us to pay full price for your servers mistake that she admitted making? So they got their food back that she just started eating and I paid for the meal I ate. You are actively choosing to lose a family of customers over your mistakes, that you could have easily resolved. I never entered your establishment expecting a freebie. I wanted you to make it right but you couldn't/wouldn't. Honestly it was very frustrating but looking back, what a weird way to handle that. To the owners of Aroi that I know will see this review, I will not return to your restaurant. No hard feelings as you clearly don't need my business but in a world of increasingly more expensive meals, sometimes lower quality food, and more and more issues with food service, you have found your way to the rest of them. I will take my...
Read moreBeen wanting to try this place for awhile. Lovely friendly customer service. The lady was quite helpful. Service was a bit slow during a seemingly not busy (aka quiet) lunch timeframe. Cute little building with scarce decorations. Maybe needs something to help it feel more warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, most of us were underwhelmed by our food we ordered. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and it was not what I expected. Ordered no spice but it still had a bit of heat to it for me (maybe too much freshly ground pepper on top). It’s like the rice was just cooked in turmeric or curry or something that made it bright yellow, aka not fried rice. It just wasn’t the kind of pineapple fried rice I ordered in Thailand years ago and was hoping for. It came with chopped up purple onion, green onions, canned pineapple chunks, and uncooked cashews. The flavors just clashed. I was able to enjoy the leftovers more by throwing fresh tomatoes on it. Maybe something for the restaurant to consider. My friends ordered other fried rice variations (again disappointing for him), drunken noodles (which she said was good), and curry (which was just okay for him). I Will say I appreciate that they had a...
Read moreThe food at Aroi Thai is very good however the service is terrible and they charge you extra for no apparent reason. My wife is thai and wanted some thai food for dinner. We went to Aroi Thai for dinner with the family. Ordered the Sukiyaki soup among other things. When the soup came out it had very little flavoring and clearly did not have the Sukiyaki sauce added to it. We asked for a side of Sukiyaki sauce and after spending 8 minutes convincing the waitress that there really is such a sauce, the waitress went to the back to "ask the chef if there is such a sauce." After about 5 minutes the waitress returned with some Sukiyaki sauce, put it on the table without speaking a word and walked away. When we got our bill, we were charged extra money for the sauce that was supposed to come with the soup. In addition to being charged extra, the waitress was rude and difficult to get along with. We normally go to Thai Mint in Briargate for home cooked Thai food but decided to try someplace new. After the lack of service and overcharging for a sauce that was supposed to be a part of the soup, we will be sticking...
