I had gone into the restaurant on a Thursday to make arrangements for a company BBQ for my 78 employees for reaching a safety milestone. After meeting with Rome_, and explaining my needs, we came to an agreement on the food and price (more to come on that). That plan was for me to come back the following Wednesday to pay for all of the food and pick up the first order. When Wednesday rolled around, I showed up to pay for the entire order and to pick up the first wave and he acted like he didn't know who I was or why I was there. He told me there was no food for me because he didn't hear from me in until then. I told him that I specifically asked him on Thursday if he needed anything at all before the event (I was willing to pay for it right then and there, but he was adamant about waiting), and he responded "No, we're all set, just come in and pay for it Wednesday when you pick up the first round." I couldn't believe how rude he was during our discussion. He literally told me to go somewhere else for the food!!! I couldn't believe it! I had 78 employees (we're a fortune 500 company with over 425,000 employees world wide) who were waiting for Hawaiian BBQ, and instead, I had to high tail it to Sam's to put something together in a matter of an hour. Needless to say, I was very disappointed, not only with not having the food that we agreed on, but more so with how unprofessional he acted under the circumstances. I wonder if the IRS would be interested to hear that Rome_ gave me the option to either pay for the food in cash and he would knock off $53 of the total price, or I could use my Corporate Card and we would both have to pay taxes. So, not only does he have ZERO respect for what could have been a very good relationship since we're about 80 days away from moving into a brand new facility that's down the street from their business, but he has ZERO respect for our U.S.Tax & Revenue Services. I just hope that the BBB does their part in reporting Julie's to the IRS when I notified them of his practices. Worst experience I've ever had setting up an Employee BBQ. If he couldn't handle such a large order, he should have just been honest and not agreed to do something he had no chance of keeping his...
Read moreI have many friends that eat at this restaurant and they rave about how good the food is here. I'll start with my initial contact about a month ago.My wife and I ordered a large team of lechon from them because again our friends stated it was great there. We ordered a large pan that cost us $180, I asked if the pan would be full and they said not as full as in there being a hump on top. But full flat, so we decided to purchase for our party. We asked if they gave any military discount but unfortunately they don't, no big deal, but the owner said but I'll give you a bottle of the "brown sauce" for free. Ok great, so I made payment and also provided tip in advance. The day of my party, I sent my daughter down to pick-up the order and due to traffic she wasn't there at the expected time to pick-up. When my daughter arrived 10 minutes after the time for pick-up and gave them the name for the order, the individual embarrassed my daughter by yelling at her in the restaurant that she was late. My daughter explained traffic was bad and that she was sorry. The item was paid for and there was no reason for him to yell at her. If I was the one to pick it I bet he wouldn't have yelled at me. When my daughter arrived with the order I looked in the tray and I was flabbergasted as to how much empty pockets there were in the large pan. That was not $180 worth and to add that he didn't provide my daughter with the brown sauce. When my wife called to asked what happened with my daughter and why she wasn't give the sauce, he stated that he didn't yell and nor did he say he'd throw in the bottle of brown sauce. Hmmmm.....again I wish I was the one to pick our order. I caution many who order there for a party tray, ensure you get the amount of food that you pay for and take what the say they'll give you free up front when you place your order...
Read moreJulie's Kitchen is a quaint small "Mom and Pop" restaurant where you will get delicious Hawaiian and Filipino food, priced extremely well. You will be greeted with a smile and good conversation from Julie. I have tried a decent amount of their items and have nailed down the best.
FOOD: The Chicken Katsu is fantastic. My children love it. It is freshly made, large portions and tastes good. The katsu sauce is good. The Korean Chicken is also good. It has a breading similar in style to Chinese food. It is similar to the Katsu but with a different texture in the batter. The short ribs have good flavor but the texture was off. The Mac salad is delicious and the rice portions are large. We stay away from most of the Filipino dishes after trying them but do enjoy the Lechon. Some additional drink options would be nice.
SERVICE: The service is really nice here. Julie and Romeo are both very friendly and will remember you once you have come more than once. I enjoy my conversations with Julie.
ATMOSPHERE: This is where I have to hit them hard. First, the inside can be pretty dirty and the building shows signs of age everywhere. The bathroom is iffy. The BIGGEST issue is the area around the restaurant. It is super ghetto and there are homeless vagrants everywhere. I would not feel comfortable coming here late at night without "protection".
Overall, Julie's Kitchen is a nice little spot with really good Hawaiian Food. If you are like me and you no longer go to L&L because they went...
