Loonees has been the only dedicated venue for comedy in Colorado Springs for longer than I can remember - so, at least 20 years. Since then, they have had a couple of facelifts - their current one being the loveliest thus far. I can remember many a show seen in crowded darkness with sticky floors, lol.
As a small comedy venue in a city left off most tour rosters, there isn't a lot of money to be made off of anything except selling marked up menu items - hence the 2 item minimum. They have a penchant for scoring seriously amazing comedians who don't get enough appreciation - Kevin Farley and David Nickerson were the last two shows Hubby and I saw and we loved them both.
As a local small business that is trying to stay alive in an extremely difficult market, don't hesitate to support these determined and hopeful people. For the price of dinner and a movie, you can have drinks, snacks, and a show - one that will inspire you to think and laugh and enjoy time with other people.
Like any human endeavor this one has its' shortcomings (do we really want to talk about the inconsistent food, determined but amateur wait staff, or outdated restrooms? Meh, not really) - but its goal and vision are entirely worth celebrating...
Read moreI'd like to start off with I am without a doubt completely disgusted with this place and my experience here. My wife and I have been coming here for about 6 months fairly regularly and have had good experiences in the past, because of this both of us won 10 tickets each to a free show on friday night at 2130, as a United States Army Combat Medic I took this opportunity to invite several of the cavalry scouts who are part of my troop to a free show with the understanding that I was more than willing to buy extra drinks and food to cover the two items minimum for each of them (resulting in a bill of over 160 dollars). One of my guys and his wife were kicked out by our waitress Lindsey because they didn't buy the two items minimum per person even though they said they were part of our group, I was embarrassed to have the other 8 members of our group there because the first three acts (about an hour over all) were terrible, and a really creepy guy followed my wife to the bathroom in an attempt to pick her up. If you're looking for a place to have a nice Friday night out I would recommend anywhere but loonees. Only thing nice I can say about tonight was at least Sam...
Read moreWe went Sat, Feb 03 2024 and it was my second time seeing a show there. The main act was Mike Stanley. He and the other comedians were hilarious and I loved them all, but this is a review of Loonee's as a venue.
It was great! I love the small/medium size. I'm a tall-ish guy and while I definitely think the tables could be cramped, I really didn't mind. The staff was kind, quick, and does a great job balancing checking on tables with being unobtrusive. Plus it's really clean and just cool to look at the comedians that have been there.
I want to knock off half a star for the price:quality ratio of the food and drinks, but it didn't bother me enough to round down to 4 stars. The 2 drink minimum is completely reasonable IMO, although it was about 10$ per for some mid level cocktails and bar food. Is what it is but the other people in my party seemed to mind it a lot more than I did.
The best way to enjoy this place is to pregame with some beers or edibles and then order some classic cocktails where you know just what you're getting (the Moscow Mule hit the spot), and just enjoy the fantastic service,...
