Update: If you have a kid that really wants to do hip hop dance getting through the beginner class is challenging but once you advance it's very very fun. My daughter was elated after her first class in the slightly more advanced class. The reason the beginner class is more challenging is because the age range is just too great for the vastly varying physical abilities. The 6 year olds should definitely be grouped in the 3-5 range group instead of up to 12 years old to really develop their basic coordination. :)
My daughter has attended 2 classes so far for beginner hip hop. The studio is really beautiful and artistically done. You can tell a lot of care goes into keeping the place clean and it's also very cozy for waiting parents. They have a snack/toy room with items for purchase and as incentives for good behavior. My daughter enjoys her teacher so far. They offer classes for kids (as young as 6) and adults including Zumba. 6 yo seems to be a bit young for some of the kids who don't seem like they're quite ready to follow instruction and that hinders the older kids a bit but this is certainly not the studios fault.
I do think it would be a great idea to package classes together...for example have a Zumba class at the same time as hip hop kids class so parents can do a class for themselves and the tuition could double.
I've been offered coffee and hot chocolate while my daughter was dancing and those little details...
Read moreMy daughter has been with J&J Hip Hop for almost a year now, and has grown and come out of her shell. The Cantu's are an amazing family, I sincerely admire their passion for what they do. The classes are affordable, times offered are reasonable, and the environment is welcoming. The recital that was held back in June was an awesome production that was put together, and lots of effort and dedication went into it. Very affordable options for video, photography, as well for the costumes. I don't see one class where one student is focused on over another, each kid gets their time to shine in the classroom and are encouraged to freestyle their own 'flava'. Being a dance instructor myself, I can understand the closed classroom environment and how it is beneficial, as to allowing the kids to be more open and a bit more focused when they don't have what feels like a million eyes on them. However, that is every other week, with parents being welcomed during the open classroom weeks. I very much so recommend this company to anyone, from children to adults, to check J&J Hip Hop out. Positive music is only played and positive messages, no cuss words within the music, and no mainstream negativity that most hip hop...
Read moreso i’ve been going to J&J for about 4 years now and i love this place so much! the people and instructors are just beautiful inside and out. they’ve stuck with me and helped me improve SO much. this is my second home and i’ve made an amazing family here. i highly recommend this place to anyone who wants real street hip hop and so many other classes. it’s such a comfortable place to be yourself and you’re able to connect with everyone which makes the dance experience a whole lot better. this place has really helped me grow as a dancer and a person! they aren’t competitive like some other studios or judgmental at all. sometimes it can be scary to dance in front of others especially if you’re a beginner because you could feel like you’re being judged or you’re not good enough. but the instructors are super patient and caring and they do anything to help. they’ve helped me boost my confidence a ton. they’re very passionate and amazing at what they do. i love it here and i’m sure anyone else...
