I have been looking for a place to play Modern since I came back to MTG. I had my old modern deck listed on FB trying to get money, so I could buy something more meta relevant and get back to playing Magic. Before I took a break from MTG I played at Enchanted Realms Games & Gifts because it was the closest store to my house and I liked the environment and store owner. Since they moved down south it was now a 30 minute drive to Realms so I was looking for a new place to play. The guy who wanted to buy my old deck asked if I would meet at Muse to make the sale. I was stoked to check out a new store to possibly play at since Realms is now so far from my house. When I got to Muse the buyer was there purchasing things from the store, so I went to the back where the tables were and waited. I sat at one of the only two tables being used so we were not getting in the way or taking up needed space. The buyer starts looking at the deck and the employee walks over and tells us she will lifetime ban us from the store if we are selling cards or decks. It was a terrible way to be introduced to a new game store while looking for a LGS to start playing again since they would have made money on singles, packs, event entry, and the plethora of sleeves I buy since I re sleeve my most played decks every month or so. The store gained nothing with this rule and instead lost on a potential regular and any one else I play with casually that agrees. Would one be banned for playing at other game stores too? Or maybe buying cards from TCG player when the LGS doesn’t have a card in stock? That is how dumb this rule sounds. I guess I will look into playing at Iron Lion or drive further...
Read moreI had a very average experience here. I went looking for two specific games (Love Letter and The Fox In The Forest) and asked if they had them in stock. When I asked if they had them in stock and said I was looking for something to play two-player with my husband, the person working (who asked if I needed help) responded, "sorry I don't have those right now." and then just kind of walked away to the front desk.
I really don't mind a store being out of a specific game, that's pretty normal. But I would expect a game store to, especially when out of two games with similar mechanics, recommend to me something else or help me find a different game. Maybe even offer to order it to the store and call me to come pick it up. The latter is not a dealbreaker but is definitely something I've had offered in other stores. There were also two other people wandering around the store who were not asked if they needed help for the 10 or so minutes I was there. And the guy working in the store wasn't stocking, just kind of standing behind the counter while customers who were definitely close by were wandering the store.
The store is beautiful and inviting and seems to have a good selection and variety of comics, books, and games, as well as a great area to play them. Unfortunately the staff was just...unhelpful. I really wanted to buy something today and I ended up going to a different game store where they also did not have the games I was looking for. The difference? I ended up buying a game there because the salesperson recommended...
Read moreThe definition of a friendly neighborhood brick and mortar business. The staff knows your name after a couple of visits. They even pull your comics and have them ready at the counter when they see you walking up. They have lots of cool and fun events. Their customers are all friendly and very helpful, and they maintain a wonderful atmosphere for all ages. I take my son here to buy magic cards while I buy comics and the occasional pack of magic cards too. They always have a great selection of books, toys, games, and collectibles. George is the owner and he's incredibly friendly and enjoyable to talk with. He also enjoys playing the event with the customers. Missy is an absolute doll. She's always happy to see you and has your stuff ready before you get to the door. She's amazing. Their new employee, who I regret not having learned her name yet, is also extremely nice and is enthusiastic to be there. Their store is always clean and, the staff is very knowledgable and helpful. They do not try and force sales on you, they are simple, honest and friendly. You can't expect or ask for more from a business, honestly. Support more businesses like this. They deserve it and its helps...
