I wanted to try something new for lunch on my birthday and decided to check out Rudy’s Little Hideaway after hearing some great things. First off, the view was beautiful. I sat outside on the patio, and the overcast weather actually made it really pleasant. My server, Yasir, was an absolute gem, sweet, helpful, and very attentive. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. The food was just… meh. Very typical, uninspired Mexican fare, nothing that stood out or made me want to come back. I ordered a combo plate with an enchilada, a poblano stuffed with chorizo, and a tostada with beans and rice. I asked for my green chili on the side (I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice). The enchilada’s cheese wasn’t even melted, and the meat, beans, and rice lacked any real flavor. The poblano was just okay, probably thanks to the chorizo, which added the only noticeable flavor. The margarita was too sweet and not well-balanced, which was a real disappointment because I know and love my margaritas. I was really hoping for better. Funny enough, the photo I took makes the lunch look beautiful, but trust me, it tasted nothing like it looked. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

The food was nothing short of fantastic! I had the #1 lunch special, and a margarita; my friend had the #5 combo and 3 margaritas. We both opted for the chili verde. This is the first time I finished before my friend!! I enthusiastically recommend this place to anybody who really enjoys real Mexican food. The prices are very low, considering the food. My plate was under $8.00, before tax and tip. Outstanding. My Fort Worth hat is off, for this place!🤠 I re-visited, on 9/29/22, with two friends. I had the Cammarones a al Diabla, one friend had chicken enchiladas, the other had chicken fajitas. I had Corona Especials, one friend had margaritas, the other had iced tea. The food was as great as last year, but the service was very slow. It may be because we got there an hour before closing, and on a Thursday; I don't know. I will visit again, next time I go to the area, and eat here again, though.

Saw this place on an Saturday adventure and thought it would be a great place to stop and eat. Not sure what type of restaurant it was when stopping. We headed inside and there was no one around until I walked al the way into the dinning area and asked if I could be seated. I was surprised how slow it seemed but as we ate the restaurant picked up. Once we sat down the staff was very friendly and helpful. We started with a Cheese dip with green Chile which was pretty good. I then ordered the #7 plate and the wife ordered a shrimp plate. The enchiladas was very good. My chili reno was ok. The wife really enjoyed her plate. And of course we had to try a margarita. It was very good. . Would I think the patio would be a great place to dine in the summer but they did not have it open. If I was in the neighbor hood I would come back here again.

They are stealing from your credit card—- UPDATE SEE BELOW ** I love everything about this place! The best! The service is outstanding and they are happy workers! The food is spot on. Everything I have ever ordered, I loved! I wish they were open more often but I get it. Prices are extremely reasonable too. UPDATE, sadly…** We went there over the weekend, and it was not at all busy when we arrived. As we ate, more people came in and they started to get slightly busy. It looked like only 2 people were working the tables, and I respect the hard work. However, once we were ready to leave, we had to wait what seemed like a long time. I tried all the usually stuff to get attention, eye contact , standing, I went to the front host station… no one working there at the time. I had made several attempts to get our server to help us. She ignored us. The other server offered to help, but he forgot too (he’s a really hard worker). Anyway, long story short, due to poor service, one member of our party didn’t want to tip at all (also she didn’t like her food). I wanted to leave something at least. So I tipped. Once I reviewed the charges on the credit card, the total had been increased. We called and requested a copy of the forged receipt where they increased the tip. My wife went by the next day to get it and they only provided the one without the forged signature and provided her with the cash difference. The server who did this, was asked to speak with my wife. She never apologized and just kept asking to keep the stolen money (as I understood it). The other server came over and tried to explain that they were busy that night so… so?? Anyway they said that they are not doing this to all customers. I’m sad that they stole from us (it’s not about the stolen money-refunded in cash) but the lack of ethics and integrity. Servers that steal from customers should be fired. If you go there, check your credit card charges. They (she apparently?) is stealing from customers by increasing the tip that customers are nice enough to give. I’m very disappointed. She (or someone there-she never denied it though) must have forged my name and added more money to the second copy that I failed to take with me or rip up. :( I’ll get a copy from the credit card company (they can get it) and decide the next steps. So sad. *UPDATE * The owner reached out and said that he watched the cameras and that we did not wait as long as we thought we waited and asked that we remove our post. I edited the wait time comment per his request because maybe it really wasn’t as long as it seemed. the food came out quickly and we did wait a very long time but if he says we didn’t then OK. the point is they stole from us. they forged my name on a credit card receipt and stole from us. We went there and they gave us the stolen money back in cash. I was willing to just leave it at that but now I think I’m going to reach out to the credit card company fraud department and let the thieves get what thieves deserve. I don’t like it when people steal it from me. I liked this restaurant. I like the food. It was one of my favorites and now I can’t go back. just be careful use cash or check you credit...

As with all places, Rudy's Hidaway has its good and bad, but my wife and I agree that it's worth going again for a second impression. Vibe: We have several places around Texas that we are fond of, and as far as the atmosphere goes, we felt right at home with the mom and pop Mexican decor. It felt like one of the places we love in Austin. Service: Service was severely lacking. Although there were 3 or 4 staff running in and out of the alcove we were sitting in, it still took 10 minutes to get menus, and another 5 or so to give a second drink order. All in all, it was 20 minutes to actually receive a cup of coffee and a tea. The food order and delivery timing were much better after that. Food: While my wife loved her breakfast nachos, I was less than thrilled about my chorizo scramble. Her nachos were actually VERY FLAVORFUL. We were both impressed and recommend them highly. As far as the chorizo scramble. They were severely lacking, to say the least. The chorizo was probably the best I've had in a long while (and there was plenty of it), but other than the chorizo scrambled eggs, and hash browns there was nothing else on the plate. It needed some pico, beans (shocked they weren't there), and maybe some sour cream or avacado to break up the grease on grease of the eggs and potatoes. If not for my food, I'd have given a 4th star, but the haphazard service would still have been an issue. We both decided to give it another go, so an update might be in order. Yes, we do recommend the place for breakfast, but be aware of the...

We were greeted by the friendly hostess and she said "you can sit anywhere you want" and with it being 45 minutes till closing and no other customers in line, we chose to sit at a corner table kind of secluded, but it was a table for 6. The waitess walks up and asks us "how many"..my husband and I just looked at each other like did she really just ask that? I thought maybe she meant how many drinks so I said coke and she immediately said "no, I mean how many people" looking at us like we were idiots for choosing the table we chose. We both said two people and very snotty, she said well can you move to another table? Mind you there were PLENTY of tables and NO other customers besides the couple of tables already there and it was almost closing! So, needless to say we walked out and I looked over and that waitress had a smirk on her face not even trying to satisfy her customers. Then I proceeded to call up there and the girls answering the phone would not let me speak to the owner, Rudy. They kept hanging up on me. All my husband and I wanted was a relaxing meal in a nice atmosphere and all we got was a rude and hateful waitress that made us feel like we did something wrong by choosing to sit "anywhere we wanted to". There are plenty of other wonderful Mexican restaurants to go to...like Alphonso's! Now they care about customer satisfaction...
