The bicycle tour down Gold Camp was enjoyable and scenic; easy enough for a new rider, with opportunities for speeds and thrills for the most experienced riders. The shuttle ride up was also a thrill of its own.
The bikes were in acceptable condition, though nothing exceptional. The shuttle van was in rough condition; it made it up the rough washboard road, but rattled and shook the entire way.
The guides and staff the morning of our tour provided thorough details to help make the tourists comfortable.
HOWEVER! We were made extremely uncomfortable the night before our tour. Our intention had been to tent camp nearby at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Severe weather (thunderstorms and flash floods) had forced campers to flee the park for shelter in the city. We searched for hotels for over two hours, finding most hotels to have already filled up (due to the weather, as per most receptionists).
Due to the extenuating circumstances we endured, we made the hard decision to call Bike Pikes Peak Tours to ask politely for any advice or accommodations they could provide. We considered cancelling our tour, due to continued forecasts of severe rain (including evacuation of several mountain towns due to flooding and road washouts). "Gia" answered the phone when we called just before closing hours, she promised to call Dylan Scott to explain our situation, and promised us a return phone call. We received only a text back, closing any potential dialogue: "it would cost the company money for the guides" (see attached pictures). We were made to feel as though their bottom-line was more important than our respect and comfort.
Not wanting to eat the several hundred dollar tour fees, we moved further outside the city, finally finding a hotel and settling in as near to Colorado Springs as possible (now at 11pm at night).

Read moreThis tour was THE SINGLE most visually intimidating excursion/adventure I have ever done, but also one of the coolest. The drive up the mountain is where the intimidation builds. They took us to the top which rests at 14,100’. The view is incredible. Heed their warning…it is cold at the top. You then head back down the mountain a few hundred feet, where you start out on your bike. The elevation at this point is approximately 13,500’. Down the mountain we went. At roughly 12,500’ five fighter jets “buzzed” the mountain…very cool!. Other than being intimidated by the surroundings we always felt safe. The bikes are equipped with disc brakes and they work very very well. Our guides Joel and Luke did a fantastic job of catering to our needs. Joel led us down the mountain and Luke followed in the van to keep traffic away from us. They ride is a little over 17 miles long, but they do stop frequently for picture breaks and to catch your breath. There are three uphill portions of the ride. The first two are roughly 100’ long with a gentle slope to climb. The third is broken into two parts. The first part is steeper and shorter and the second is less steep, but longer. The total length of the third incline is roughly 500’. It is very doable even when like me, you aren’t in the same shape I was 50 years ago. If you can’t make it all the way up, Luke will stop and pick you up in the van. You can always return to the bike once you catch you breath. My wife is in her late 50’s, I am in my early 60’s, and my son is 26. We all LOVED the experience and would highly recommend. Most definitely 5 STARS! Mark from...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to do more than the usual drive up Pikes Peak snap a few photo's, buy a souvenir then drive down. this company's rail n ride tour was just what we wanted to experience Pikes Peak on a much more personal level. Our guides, Spencer and Brian took care of everything for us. They shuttled us to the train station, purchased our tickets for us and met us at the summit. They thoughtfully provided warm clothes should we need them which we did. Safety was a priority as they provided us with a thorough safety briefing before we started our mountain bike descent. Spencer lead us down on bike while Brian drove the shuttle bus behind us ensuring our safety all the way down. My wife is an inexperienced mountain biker and our guides were very patient and skilled teachers. She loved it as I did. Frequent stops at the best look out spots were made so we could take in the panoramic views. At the bottom of the mountain they loaded the bikes up and took us to a tasty lunch, ordering ahead for us so it was ready when we arrived. After lunch the they took us back to their base where we had parked our car. All of this is included in their tour. I recommend Pikes Peak Mountain bike Tours for all who want to experience Pikes Peak on a very personal level. Thanks Spencer and Brian for a very memorable experience...
