Where to even start? I am a native to Colorado Springs, I'm 35 years old, my name is Destiny. As of 8/24 I am in remission from a 3-year long battle against cervical cancer.
I changed my lifestyle when I was diagnosed in 2021, to a healthy, nourishing lifestyle. Through my research I discovered sourdough and it's healing properties and benefits. I wasn't eating much and didn't have the time, tools or experience needed to bake so I went on the search for a local sourdough bakery.
It wasn't too difficult to locate the Boulangerie, as he is one of the few (if not only) location in the Springs to find GOOD, homemade sourdough breads.
When I say breads I mean hoagies, kaisers, buns, pretzels, graham crackers, all the yummy home baked breads you can think of (sourdough, extra sourdough, extra extra sourdough, jalapeno cheddar sourdough, rye sourdough, wheat sourdough, banana walnut sourdough bread, zucchini sourdough bread, sourdough blueberry bread, sourdough cinnamon rolls, sourdough brownies, sourdough cookies and sourdough cheese crackers).
Let's not forget the UNLIMITED LOCAL TOPPING SOURDOUGH PIZZA they offer (take and/or bake or pre-baked) WHAT?!?!
Oh, AND he uses local ingredients in all of his items AND allows other locals to show and sell their homemade, high-quality, local options for food, crafts, coffees, salsas, cheeses, sprouts and so many things, out of his store, because they have proved difficult to find anywhere else.
His breads were the only food I looked forward to when I was in my journey. I couldn't wait til' "sourdough day" came and I could eat as much as I wanted and not feel guilty because the quality of ingredients meant I my body was being nourished and still in guilt-free FOOD HEAVEN (my mouth is drooling just typing this, truly, love food memories lol).
I know if you've made it this far, you're already getting excited and just wait til' you hear that it gets even better, because this store is run by the BEST crew of people you could meet!! It was started by a wonderful man who has changed my life, started it to help his community and has set an example of how I want to live my life for others and shown such SELFLESS support for the people in his community the 3 years I've known him. The love he has for people, his desire to give them access to good, high-quality foods and goods AND a place to do business with kind-hearted, down-to-earth people who know what it is to struggle and to know they have a place to where they can go grab some nourishing goodies, and get a little soul nourishment seeing a familiar face that remembers you BY NAME and takes such good care of you you'd think you were a member of the club.
I LOVE being a member of the "Boulangerie Club" and will spread the word proudly and loudly!
PLEASE just stop in and I dare you to try to walk out with less than 5 items, because I've yet to beat that personal challenge. Haha no, it's truly a struggle, they add new items that get me hooked every time! My family have put a time limit on how long I'm allowed to browse, or I'll buy IT ALL, and they have to come get me when I exceed such limit! No exaggerations here. :)
I will FOREVER be grateful for Shawn and his crew, who truly are more like a big family/club than anything and I'm humbled and honored to be a part of something that's changing lives for the better, because it sure did (and still does) mine.
p.s. If you're on the west side of town and would like to sample his selection before you make the drive over to Powers, you can stop by the Ranchers Food Direct butcher shop on Nevada and Fillmore and find a large selection of breads and goodies from the Boulangerie. There is ALSO the food truck El Chapin that does local beef burgers and uses the Boulangerie's Sourdough buns for their burgers. Please give them a try and support someone who has supported so, so many of his local community members he deserves to be shouted out louder than I can do him justice here.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHNG SHAWN, FROM MY FAMILY TO THE SOURDOUGH FAMILY. YOU GUYS...
Read moreI thought over all this place is really nice. The selections on sourdough breads was amazing! I wanted to grab so many.. Super kind lady who assisted me.
The not so great. I came in looking for a sourdough challah bread b/c my wife is Jewish and we were celebrating the feast of lights so we look for nice bread to pass along to our guest. First if you understand anything about Judaism bread is a big deal and it’s super important for Jewish holidays the items for each feast being celebratedz
Sadly to say the sourdough challah was very very disappointing. It’s not even challah what’s makes it challah is the braids on the bread itself. When we took the bread home and passed out to our guest they were so dissatisfied by the taste. It was not challah at all. I would have rather have gotten some of the other options instead for a better experience for our guest. I had been so hopeful and when I couodnr believe I found a place that made sourdough challah don’t e fooled though. This is not the place for this type of bread especially for its price at $13 for the loaf.
There’s better places like knighting gale breads and others in the area that actually serve top quality. Pleas I say this to the sourdough boulangerje don’t tell people you sell challah when the loaf looks like a giant block with bubbles on top. I mean no disrespect just be more mindful and do your research. This is the first and last time I come here. Again great place for everything else but sadly to say there’s better bread places around the springs I can go to get it at...
Read moreRuined their Jewish Rye by making it into a sweet bread. Shouldnt call it Jewish Rye though. Flour used must be off the Sysco truck. Pity since Colorado has so many local grain growers nearby. Disappointed with quality. Their sourdough is good, but it's the only thing good in the Jewish Rye. Molasses & brown sugar make it weirdly sweet & the "wheat flour" must be so milled its like a white. Texture is of a white bread & doesnt hold up well to butter when toasted. Falls apart with a rueben- the bread used for this sandwhich. This baker even adds coffee to make it the proper color, so their "Jewish Rye," is another thing entirely. Should call it what it really is.There's not much substance to this bread bc of their choice of flours. Can't taste rye except for the excessive ratio of caraway seeds in the loaf. The "wheat flour" trick is one Mennonites use to fool folks too, so people think theyre getting better than the supermarket.Buy yourJewish Rye at the supermarket & save money bc its the same quality minus supermarket shelf life...
