Okay, I really want to provide 5 stars, but too many issues have been consistent.
TLDR: The gym is not properly sized, and too many people monopolize machines and equipment. Staff don't keep cleaning wipes stocked and rather socialize than address any issues. Great equipment and options but hard to use most the time.
I have seen remarks on how clean the restroom and locker rooms, but fail to mention how small they are. I have given up trying to change at the location as it is always full and has little space to change. In the evenings, this also means it isn't as clean anymore, and often changing areas are soaked in water.
The equipment is nice, if you can use it when you're there. There are a number of machines hoarded by groups of younger ages that will rotate out and will block off the machine for 30 minutes or longer. Many others will just sit on their phones or flirt with each other for extended time periods and barely use the machine. You will find yourself standing and waiting rather than keeping the flow going.
Before others jump in, yes part of it has to do with the time of day, but when I have kids I'm helping with in the morning and then getting off work in the evening and going straight there I don't have much time afforded to me without giving up even more time with my kids and wife. I also acknowledge that a workout buddy can be helpful, but when there are 2 of you, just rotating back and forth for 30 minutes while others are waiting, it's poor etiquette.
As for the staff, in my interaction there, they either A will put on the friendly face but don't get out to check on the gym or B are socializing and not paying attention to the customers. I have experienced on several occasions that a staff member will go around and empty the trash but leaves the cleaning wipes, which are empty, remain empty. It's more akin to a group of social influencer friends just putting on a pretty face than actually ensuring the gym is ready, safe, and clean. This is only referring to those not actively doing personal training but instead manning the front or cleaning.
The part they have limited control on but don't police is the behavior of some other customers. I have seen vaping occur in the facility, and when informing the staff, it was a more "okay thanks, but I don't care" attitude.
The place is overflowing most of the time, so parking is usually a mess. The waiting time for machines has led me to abandon what I had planned for that session and move on to something else. Staff seems like they are only there for a paycheck and to socialize. A small group of other patrons could care less and know they can do what they want without any consequences and with no respect for others.
If even some of this changes, mainly the staffs approach to the location they are responsible for and asking people to be mindful of others who are there for the same reason it could be 5 stars as the location is nice and has plenty of choices when it comes for...
Read moreUpdate III: After almost 1 year of this gym being open, it is still not getting any better. Corporate still doesn't care about what the customer's want , rather only what they want. Like yet another renovation going on right now to disturb your workout to add an amenity for the elite level memberships only, instead of putting in something to improve other areas that are lacking like the cardio or relaxation areas, hiring a security guard for the ghetto parking lot, or even making the lockers rooms larger. Alas, this place doesn't care about the customer's concerns. I bet their retention rate for keeping members is on the decline. Keep doing what your doing corporate people! I wonder what dumb ideas they will have for the next location in the works. Gotta go to K-mart! Horrible new gym with horrible selection of brand new equipment with a massive power lifting area and something for everyone. If you are too critical for this new gym on the east side, I hear really good things about the planet fitness down the street. Yeah there are a few things to improve on: locker room changing area is miniature, it could def be a few degrees cooler (which might have something to do with the 'red light therapy' vertical machine heating up the whole gym and the overly complicated massage chair area). For critical gym rats that demand more, there is always lifetime fitness much farther away for $150+ a month. Overall, I would not recommend coming here due to parking, busyness, horrible staff, bad lighting, lack of lockers / locker room area, not enough equipment, expensive elite level amenities, etc. Update: Also, I have to say that for some reason, this gym has the worst etiquette from the club members of any gym I've been to. Talking about the pool area turning into a bath house, no one re-racking their weights, people in the vain/ narcissistic area who can only do exercises with a mirror in front of them, people filming each other, and people who have no concept of the fact that someone else might actually want to use that piece of equipment they're on while they take their sweet time playing on their phone, etc. Update II: This gym is a lost cause. They don't give a darn about the member's legitimate concerns. This location has been open for 8 months now and they are still messing with the roof! The other day, there was a construction guy literally spray painting the ceiling inside right above people trying to work out. I don't know why VASA asks for people's input on surveys because all that happens is corporate and the gym management takes turn passing the blame off to each other with nothing actually being done. The gym is burning hot every time with no fresh AC and the fans being turned off. The air is nasty and stagnant which is not suitable in exercise science standards. This could* be the best gym in CS but instead, management dropped the ball and just doesn't give a darn about making any proactive changes for the members. What a waste...
Read moreit's a nice new gym, but it isn't perfect. If you're just in a lifting weights working on an elliptical or a treadmill, it's good enough, at a good price. Be aware that there are only three sitting up exercise bikes, and three reclining, which is kind of weird for a huge gym.
The treadmills and ellipticals are great, everything is brand new. I believe I might be keeping my membership at their competitor however because of a few things.
Number one is, the sauna, and Steve rooms are very small and are coed, and you have to wear "llight gym clothes" inside, in their words. At VillaSport, each gender has their own sauna and steam room, and you can just go in with a towel around your waist. It seems like they were just cheap and didn't want to do that here.
As other people have commented, the locker rooms are very tight and small, make it a kind of difficult to change your clothes when other people are in the room.
There's one other minor thing, it won't affect 99% of you, but there's no electric outlets near the equipment; they plugged everything in under a elevated floor bump and screwed down the top, so there's no access to any electric outlets. In my case, I'm an extremely hot runner, and at my other gym, I like to have a small fan blowing on me, which I plug-in in front of the machine. I can't do that here, but it's not a deal-breaker for most of you.
I like this place because it's cheap and near my house, but there's certain things at VillaSport that I like better. I like going into a steam room or hot tub and not having to worry about having clothes on. I like being able to have a fan on me , I like the large men's locker room, with a lot of space.
Anyway, if none of these bother you, then it's a nice place to come work out. Edit: 27 Sep 24
These sneaky mf's just charged my card $77 even though I cancelled my membership two months ago! I called and they said "oh, well, when you signed up, you added your wife to your account." so I replied "yeah, so?"
She said "when you add someone, and you cancel, we keep their account active! And then, after a time, we charge her the full amount!" Nice, so they screwed me out of almost $80. I am doing a charge back on the credit card. Let this be a warning to others.
I signed up before they opened for the $10 a month special, added my wife as a guest, stepped foot inside it once and felt it wasn't for us, so immediately cancelled. They charged me $50 to cancel, and now another $77. I am now out $147 for a gym I been inside once and never used. I assume I'll have to cancel my credit card and get a new one to prevent these thieves from...
