Tafolino's has really good food and we have been there before. Tonight the food held its own but the service has fallen off dramatically. We had at least 4 different people cover our table, so lets say they were working as a team. Let's go with that in theory, though not the case in real life. One didn't know what the other was doing, drinks were always empty, empty plates stayed on the table until I stacked them and we were walked past a half a dozen more times before someone finally took an interest and took a plate, the one I didn't stack. We had to ask repeatedly for drinks to be refilled. The order only partially came out and it took two more trips to get all of our order, no it was not a huge order and only three people. Food was hot and tasty, the side of sour cream that we had to ask for repeatedly was visibly chunky. Ick. There was a steady stream of people and I liked seeing that as I hope that when the service issues are addressed I want to go back. We are outside and that was nice as the tables were out there for social distancing, good job. On a side note I wanted to take a look at the menu before we went but the web site was very unfriendly and hard to read with a large portion of the bottom blocked by a big "contact us" banner and in the middle of the page, any and every page, was a "download the clover app" pop over that you could not make go away. This made the menu space minimal and pretty much unreadable. Tafolino's has so much going for it but they need to really step back and get a handle on their atrocious service. Going back? Since we drive 35 minutes to visit I'm...
Read moreA friend of mine wanted to go here after I had a doctor's appointment. I decided to order a very large meal because I wanted to have some leftovers for the next couple of days after seeing my doctor. The salsa was a thin type with an onion piece on occasion. My items included a bean tostada, a crispy and soft beef taco, a tamale, a smothered burrito, and a cheese enchilada. As you can see from the photos it looked pretty good. Looks can be deceiving. However on the tostada and taco plate there was a crispy taco and a soft taco that had beef in them that had absolutely no flavor. The soft shelled corn tortilla taco fell apart and I had to eat it with a fork. The tamale and the burrito and the enchilada on the other plate we're not that great either. The enchilada was the only thing I liked. The tamale had some kind of hard crusty meat on the outside in chunks that was not really edible and it was skinny and thin like a taquito. The bean burrito thing in the center was supposed to have green chili on it and I don't know what that was on top. The inside barely had any filling and it was not very flavorful. I paid $18 for this meal and it was a huge disappointment. The beans and rice were very minimal, maybe 3 bites each. The beans were decent in flavor. The rice was pretty standard. My family is Hispanic and from Laredo, Texas. I know good Mexican food! I would rather go to the place across from Big Lots called El Aguascalientes on...
Read moreBeen eating here for years. Turned my family on to them and they soon became the go-to for Mex. I am wondering if they have sold to new owners as the last 2 trips the food was dreadful. After the second bad meal (I had 2 bites before I said, "Oh, hell no."), I called my buddy who turned me on to Tafolino's about 12 years ago. This guy liked Tafolino's so much that when he moved back from Montana he ate there 5 out of 7 days because he missed the food so much. I asked him if he thought there was maybe a change in ownership or some other reason things had declined so much. His response was, "The last two times we've eaten there it was so bad we just stopped going." When I mentioned to the waiter that the food was pretty bad he just shrugged, took my plate (98% of the food uneaten), and handed me the bill. The second time when the lady at the register asked me, "How was everything?" I told her it was pretty disappointing. I don't know if she ignored me on purpose or was just asking to make small talk because she very nicely said, "Oh, good." Handed me my change and went back to her cell phone. Having worked in and owned a restaurant I know mistakes happen. But twice in a row? To multiple people I know? There's a difference between on slipping-thru-the-cracks and just plain not giving a damn. Luckily there are countless other Mex options...
