Mambo Italiano in Colts Neck is by far the best Italian sandwich shop that I have been to in a long time! As you approach the entrance, what immediately attracts you is the music that is coming from inside. You simply smile because it just makes you want to dance. The atmosphere in the restaurant is upbeat, fun, energetic, and welcoming. Anthony, the owner is so kind and considerate. He simply cannot do enough for you. Anthony is very easy to talk to, most definitely a people person who clearly enjoys and has a passion for what he does, which is making good food. And let me tell you, the food is phenomenal! I got the Sorvino sandwich #10 with the roast beef, mozzarella and the caramelized onion jam on focaccia bread (my favorite). Oh my goodness! Amazing! Amazing! I have to say that since I am gluten-sensitive, it is very difficult to find restaurants that not only accommodate gluten-sensitive options, but do them well. I can tell you definitively that Mambo Italiano does both. Mambo Italiano's gluten-free Focaccia bread is by far the best I have ever tasted! It is moist, fluffy and light, not dry like most gluten-free breads that I have tried. Then when you top it with all of the deli meats and veggies and the love that is clearly put into each and every sandwich "deliziosa." All their food is fresh and made to order. I also got an antipasto salad with veggies and mozzarella, again by far the best I have ever tasted. Anthony also told me that they have one gluten-free dessert which is a chocolate lava cake. Well, he had me at chocolate, so of course I was going to try it. Believe me, it did not disappoint. I put it in the microwave for just a few seconds and it truly was a molten lava cake with the chocolate and caramel oozing from the middle. I plan to return to Mambo Italiano frequently because their food is absolutely amazing. This area definitely needed a Mambo Italiano and I for one welcome them with open arms. P.S. I was so anxious to try the sandwich that it didn't even make it out of the parking lot! Lol. That's how good it is! Highly recommend!! Wishing you much success Anthony! All the...
Read moreI want to start off by saying the owner/employees are extremely welcoming and very pleasant to interact with. My review is mainly about food concerns. When walking in, I noticed all of their pre-cooked food that is to be served hot is just sitting out on a counter behind glass, it does not appear to be covered, refrigerated, or kept warm at a proper holding temp. It does get heated up in an oven prior to serving. My food had cheese on top that was not soft/melted after being in the oven, so it doesn’t seem like it gets very hot. Very shortly after eating my food, I started to feel off. Sure enough, starting that day, I had stomach issues that lasted a full week. I did not eat any other food that day before eating here. Perhaps it was just coincidence, and maybe I’m wrong, but it really appears they just let all kinds of perishable foods (vegetables, pasta, sauces, meatballs, cheeses, etc. that NEED to be kept at safe temps after cooking) just sit out at room temperature before reheating quickly. I’m really hoping I’m wrong, but it was a very rough week for me and I couldn’t imagine how the health dept would let this improper food handling fly. This first-time experience just...
Read moreMambo Italiano is a phenomenal, authentic Italian sandwich shop that has recently opened in central NJ and I was absolutely amazed! They bring the taste of Sicily to Monmouth County - so good that you need to check it out for yourself. With imported cold cuts straight from Italy, and fresh Italian pastries from Brooklyn, I knew I was in for a treat!
I tried the Al Pacino (#4) which features Genoa salami, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, arugula, tomatoes, and roasted garlic pesto. Each bite took me to an Italian paradise. All of the bread is made fresh in house, including the amazing focaccia that the sandwich was made with. Not only was it delicious but it was also huge and very filling!
Anthony takes great pride in his food, his shop, and his heritage. It is evident in the nods to Sicilian culture throughout the restaurant, and the way he treats all his customers like family. He was kind enough to share a sample of the fresh mozzarella (which was UNREAL) with myself and some other customers while my sandwich was being prepared and that's when I knew I'd be well taken care of. I cannot wait to come back and enjoy more of what they...
